POSITION SUMMARY
The Direct Care Staff member will work full-time or part-time or on an as needed basis under the supervision of the Home Coordinator and will work with the developmentally disabled adults, in a small home setting or in a day program. Direct care staff members will receive training both in the home and in a community setting and will work under the supervision and guidelines for providing services in less restrictive settings i.e. supported living settings. Staff members will be expected to act in a responsible manner when working in the home or in a community setting and will represent MDV at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
· Experience working as a care giver.
· Valid state driver's license and good driving record.
· Two(2)professional references.
· Interest in and commitment to serving the needs of the developmentally disabled within the rights afforded to them as citizens.
· Clear record of abuse/neglect/exploitation
· Successful completion of the post-offer process including criminal history check and professional references.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Must be able to perform physical activities, including lifting up to 50 lbs., transferring consumers, walking, pushing wheelchairs, kneeling, bending, reaching, and occasionally remaining on feet for long periods of time.
· Must be able to/willing to assist individuals with personal hygiene and medical needs.
· Must have the ability to drive or coordinate transportation for community-integrated activities.
· Must be able to handle and use cleaning products.
· Must be able to document, process notes, and other required reports.
· May be subject to dealing with a variety of confrontational situations and challenging client behavioral situations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Aiding and instructing consumers in daily self-care skills i.e. dressing, bathing, etc.
2. Supervising and participating in leisure activities, community outing and transporting consumers.
3. Recognize and report changes in behavior or health to the appropriate MDV staff.
4. Develop and foster a professional relationship with the client based on mutual respect and trust.
5. Report any actual or suspected abuse/neglect/misappropriation of consumer's property in accordance with policy and procedure.
6. Data collection and implementation of consumer programs.
7. Routine handling, assisting with, and record-keeping of consumers' medications within established policies and guidelines.
8. Food preparation according to established guidelines and menus.
9. Routine property maintenance and housekeeping including general cleaning, laundry, window washing, clearing, walkways of snow, etc.
10. Provide individual consumer services as directed according to person-centered plans and the needs of the consumer.
11. Compliance with consumers rights as prescribed by MDV and funding source.
12. Other duties assigned.
