Position Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, supply chain or related field.
Experience/Skills/Abilities: Ten years or more experience in varying engineering, supply chain and/or lean transformation functions in a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated increase in responsibility level throughout career with roles in multiple functional areas. Deep knowledge and experience leading Lean for Manufacturing and Business Processes projects and teams. Skilled with training, coaching, and mentoring to develop and foster a Lean culture in the company. Lean certifications are strongly recommended, and Six Sigma Black belt is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Development:
- Embrace and promote the changes in the organization to develop a lean culture.
- Ensure that direct reports have the required skills and knowledge to support the goals of the company.
- Ensure effective individual performance and career development plans are completed.
- Drive the overall business culture of balancing the drive for results with the drive for employee morale.
- Maintain high levels of communication regarding the status and key operational plans and/or initiatives.
Operational:
- Develop departmental budgets for Lean Transformation.
- Develop a lean transformation team to drive the organization to breakthrough to a new level of performance and results.
- Train, coach, and mentor to develop a lean culture in the company so that we have an organization of problem solvers.
- Support the strategic project teams and to achieve one year initiative targets.
- Be a key player to update the strategic plan for 3- and 5-year goals and targets. Ensure that the annual initiatives are structured to meet the longer-term goals and results for the company.
Lean Transformation:
- Lead the Change Management process to a Lean culture.
- Develop the Lean business systems and curriculum.
- Lead the people development process to a principal-driven lean culture.
- Develop a portfolio of projects for the Lean Transformation team such as Project Managers, Lean Transformation Specialists and Lean Practitioners.
- Lead and execute Breakthrough events for the company to include manufacturing, supply chain and other business functions.
- Develop the proper KPI’s and measures for the Lean Transformation team.
- Develop key metrics for the organization and report these on a monthly/quarterly basis to the management team.
- Develop a tracking system for the Lean and Continuous Improvement events and project improvement and validate the savings with the finance group. Ensure and document that the Lean process meets the targeted return on investment.
- Use Lean skills to problem solve with the PDCA (Plan Do Check Act) process methodology.
- Develop cross-functional teams to achieve breakthrough targets.
- Develop systems and control plans to sustain the results achieved.
- Coordinate and cooperate with other key groups including Continuous Improvement, Production Engineering, Technical Services and Learning and Development. Ensure that the daily Kaizen is deployed.
- Lead the deployment of Lean improvements through processes like a Quarterly Lean Summit.
- Establish a system for progression through lean learning and development such as Bronze to Silver to Gold status or certifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Director of Lean Transformation will have direct reports of the Lean Transformation department including positions such as Project Manager(s), Senior Lean Practitioner(s), Lean Practitioner(s) and data analyst(s) and will be responsible for the management of this team. They will have a key role to coach, mentor and lead the implementation of lean and promote the lean culture in the company, which will be accomplished by influencing those that do not directly report to this position. This position will assist the Senior Vice President of Supply Chain and other key management team members by providing guidance for future direction and reporting of results achieved to achieve the strategic objectives.
Travel Required: Up to 25%
Hours: Regular 40-hour workweek. Overtime as needed to complete tasks.
