General Information:
Job title: DME Assistant
Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
Weekend rotation: No weekends
Holiday rotation: Paid Holidays
Position Summary:
The DME Assistant position is responsible for assisting staff in all aspects of the department, including training patients on safe and proper uses of all durable medical equipment and disposable medical supplies, checking in and putting away supplies, and filling out all paperwork correctly.
Position Responsibilities:
- Handle phone calls and emails, including reaching out or returning calls from clinics, insurance providers, patients, or care managers.
- Assist with keeping floor full of stocked items, and put away items as they come in.
- Clean DME items.
- Provide customer service and training on equipment, including maintenance
- Explain equipment to patients and measure patient for proper fit (e.g., walker height, crutches, c-pap mask, compression stockings diabetic shoes etc.)
- Follow up on equipment/supplies furnished to patients in the home to identify patient level of progress/achievement to reach goals.
- Assist with maintaining files regarding DME patients on types of equipment and repairs furnished, follow up on patient files making sure all prescriptions and supporting documentation has been received back from doctor. Verify whether patient is still using equipment and make arrangements for returning all equipment that patient no longer needs. Document all conversations regarding patient in charts.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- BLS required or obtained within 3 months
- 1 years related work experience preferred.
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.
- Must be 21 years of age
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Intermediate proficiency with computers is required.
- Knowledge of diabetic shoe fitting, CPAP mask fitting, compression stocking fitting, and mastectomy fitting.
- Basic office skills such as data entry, filing, and phone etiquette.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize effectively with staff, patients, and public.
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
