General Information:
Job title: Surgical Technician
Schedules Available: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday - Thursday, 10 hours shifts call status
Weekend rotation: Every 4th weekend call rotation
Holiday rotation: Every 4th holiday call rotation
Additional Information: This position participates in a call rotation, which requires a response time of 15-20 minutes to return to MBMC.
Position Summary:
The Surgical Technician position prepares the operating room, including setting up the sterile field and setting up surgical equipment, supplies, and solutions. During surgery, this role passes instruments, fluids, and supplies to the surgeon and prepares and manages surgical equipment, the sterile field, and specimens.
Position Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean and sterile surgical environment, provide the surgeon with appropriate instrumentation and equipment, and assist the surgeon during procedures.
- Prepare the operating room for surgery.
- Keep records of use of Steam Sterilizer.
- Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
- Keep the suture carts organized and watch expiration dates.
- Turn over rooms in between cases.
- Assist the team members with gowning and gloving.
- Assist with patient positioning pre-operative and transport patient from cart to bed and back.
- Stock adequate supplies for surgery.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certified Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
- 1 years of related work experience preferred.
- BLS within 6 months of hire.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Intermediate proficiency with computers is required.
- Strong understanding of surgical technology and surgical procedure.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to multitask and manage priorities.
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to have continuous oral and written communication with co-workers and supervisors is essential.
- Stays up to date on surgical technology, medical terminology, and procedures.
