Summary
Responsible for developing products that meet the design requirements of our key OEM customers. This engineer will work towards the design and creation of new products, as well as the enhancement of legacy products. Working directly with the Product Support Technician, they will take a process from cradle to grave: conceptualizing, creating, documenting, analyzing, reviewing, prototyping, testing, and preparing for manufacturing. Must be comfortable with R&D processes, CNC operation, and 3D printing for rapid prototyping. This is a hands-on, key contributor role within our new product process team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute development plan and project work, maintain status, and drive projects
- Create from concept, using CAD and CAM software, all initial designs, drawings, and renderings for Management Review, develop rapid prototypes for visualizations and procurement capabilities
- Studying and researching the 4 x 4 industry and its consumers to assist with the creation of new and marketable products
- Conduct Design Reviews, Verification, and Validation activities (including PPAP); document and manage all reports in the QM system per ISO 9001:2015 procedures.
- Ensure designs meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, national and international standards, factors of safety, and work instructions per ISO standards.
- Source and manage the prototype process by working directly with internal customers and external vendors
- Creating testing methods and criteria; conduct, manage, and document all internal testing identifying any potential flaws
- Review and analyze (DFMEA and Root Cause) all non-conforming materials; document and maintain all NCMRs and CAs, as well as assist with any internal Corrective Actions
- Create and update all Work Instructions and Travelers
- Work directly with all internal and external teams overseeing the start of the manufacturing process; testing and evaluating all first-run samples
- Work directly with Customer Support in analyzing RGA trends and offering engineering solutions where applicable Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and accounting policies and procedures
- Be a key player in process improvements, documentation, and projects
- Create and update all Work Instructions
- Work directly with all internal and external teams overseeing the start of the manufacturing process; testing and evaluating all first-run samples
- Work directly with Customer Support in analyzing RGA trends and offering engineering solutions where applicable
- Institute KPIs where necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field of study, Master of Technology preferred.
· Experience working with large OEMs, including Automotive and Government OEMs, preferred
· Tier 1 experience with PPAP, APQP, and Quality control preferred, IATF experience is a plus
· Previous experience with Value Engineering/Value Analysis and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly
· Understanding of Sustainability related to design
· Understanding of manufacturing and tooling processes
· Previous experience creating Control Plans; Creative Design Verification Plans and Reports
· Must be able to perform FMEA, DFMEA, Root Cause Analysis, and track RPNs
· Strong understanding of various prototyping techniques
· Fluent in Microsoft Office products and CAD and CAM software (SolidWorks preferably). Experience in robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and mechanical with electronic interfaces is desired.
Preferred Experience:
· Auto-parts, automobile/mechanical industry experience is a plus.
· Advanced knowledge of Electronic Data Interchange systems.
