Miles & Stockbridge is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Research Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland to support attorneys and staff with their legal and business information needs. This position assists with the maintenance of the Firm’s print and electronic research collections, as well as provides specialized reference and research support to the Director and Research Librarians in the department.
Research Assistant Responsibilities:
- Maintain RIC’s print collection, including check-in and routing of legal serials and desk copies.
- Perform ordering, tracking, and receipt of books and other materials.
- Manage electronic periodical circulation.
- Provide current awareness email services for attorneys and staff.
- Update records in Integrated Library System (catalog).
- Perform “ready reference” requests, such as document and case retrieval.
- Respond to public records, business, and legal research questions from attorneys and staff, as required.
- Assist with Research & Information Center (RIC) email inbox coverage.
- Assist Director with administration of electronic filing accounts and docket tracking.
- Assist Director and Research Librarians with limited administrative tasks such as scanning, billing, invoicing, filing, and digital file maintenance.
- Collaborate on special projects assigned by the Director to support the goals of the Legal Operations department.
Research Assistant Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to adapt and apply new technologies.
- Intellectual curiosity and interest in problem-solving.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with integrated library systems, a plus.
- Experience with Westlaw Precision, Lexis , Bloomberg Law, and other legal research tools, a plus.

The pay range for this position is $56,300 - $75,000. The pay range provided is in compliance with state, city, or local employment laws and applies to this location only. Actual pay for this position will be determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, current market data, and business needs.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position or sit for prolonged periods and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is frequently required to perform light work that includes lifting and moving objects up to 10 pounds.
