- 6 month parental leave coverage from approximately May 5, 2025 - November 7, 2025
Milestones Day School has provided state-of-the-art, evidence-based, comprehensive, educational, and therapeutic programming for students with autism and mental health challenges for the past 28 years. We are seeking an experienced occupational therapist to work collaboratively on our team for students and help improve the quality of their lives by teaching skill development. The OT provides therapeutic curricula and intervention for students, works to increase sensory processing and regulation, motor skills, and community-based outings. The ideal candidate for this role will have strong organizational and management skills as well as a strong fondness for our population.
Specific responsibilities for OT include:
•Participate in weekly group supervision meetings and provide consultation/training throughout the week to Milestones’ staff
•Orient new staff, students, and their families to occupational therapy aspects of our program
•Providing diagnostic evaluations
•Writing reports & effectively presenting information, test results, diagnoses, & recommendations at meetings in a manner easily understood by the team (including family) & when appropriate, the student
•Provide individual & small group therapy
•Create sensory profiles and intervention plans
•Use both in class and sensory room interventions to teach awareness & regulation
•Along with our team, process with students who are upset or dysregulated
•Evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and make individual modifications
•Write current progress notes, IEP goals, benchmarks, and progress reports for speech aspects of the IEP
•Continue to keep up with professional development on current trends in the field
•Work collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team
•Periodically post on social media, website, newsletter, and yearbook
Requirements:
•Master’s of Occupational Therapy
•OT/R national licensure
•Licensed in the state of Massachusetts as an occupational therapist
•Knowledge and experience with a variety of assessment instruments, including administration, scoring, and interpretation
•Knowledge and experience with students who have autism spectrum disorders and various mental health challenges (e.g., anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, Tourette’s, etc.)
•Desire to keep abreast of current information on various diagnoses and treatment methods through professional development
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills
•Strong organizational skills & experience with being a team player
•Strong empathy and understanding of both students who have disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities
•Excellent critical thinking, written, and verbal skills
•Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
