What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher - Middle School ELA (6 month parental leave coverage) position at Milestones Day School (Special Ed School)?
Milestones Day School is currently seeking a certified Special Education Teacher to teach English and Language Arts to middle school students (grades 6-8) to cover a parental leave from mid May 2025 - mid November 2025.
Milestones is a private day school dedicated to helping students discover their strengths and increase their self-confidence. We offer a therapeutic academic program that incorporates both academic and social/emotional skill instruction in a state of the art building. Teachers have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of multidisciplinary therapists and specialists. We have a low student to staff ratio and our population consists primarily of students with diagnoses on the Autism Spectrum, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Anxiety Disorders.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Create and deliver an enriching ELA curriculum for students in grades 6-8 that aligns with the MA Common Core Curriculum. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong methodology for differentiating curriculum to the meet the needs of our diverse group of learners.
- Knowledge of best practices for incorporating MCAS preparation, supporting IEP accommodations and writing IEP goals, benchmarks and progress notes is also expected.
- Support students with non-academic activities that focus on social skill development, executive functioning coaching, sensory regulation, and foster independence.
- All students and staff have a designated computer device and teachers are provided with a variety of assistive technology resources to help supplement learning including Smartboards in each classroom. Classroom teachers are expected to use Google Classroom daily and support digital literacy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PREFERRED: Massachusetts Teacher’s license in Moderate Disabilities PreK-8, Moderate Disabilities 5-12, or English 5-12.
- Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education, English, or content discipline preferred; Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience teaching in a school setting.
- Experience working with students diagnosed on the autism spectrum.
