What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Staff Accountant position at Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc.?
Calling on all highly organized and detail-oriented Staff Accountants to join our team of 15 Finance and Accounting extraordinaires!
As a Senior Staff Accountant you will assist in the development and implementation of processes to reduce time to close, increase department efficiencies, improve internal controls and prepare and analyze key areas of the business. The role will have a strong focus on supporting the month end close process along with other efforts that support financial and management reporting.
\n- Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and identifying trends.
- Prepares general ledger entries while maintaining sufficient supporting documentation and adhering to best practices.
- Performs monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
- Analyze current costs, revenues, financial commitments to predict future revenues and expenses.
- Review audit and approving employee expense reports.
- Assessing accounting procedures, developing and providing recommendations for improving processes and financial efficiency.
- Interpret regulatory guidance, opine on GAAP and IFRS treatment.
- Use accounting knowledge and independent discretion to determine proper accounting solutions.
- Reviews and assesses accounting inputs from team members to determine sufficiency and ensure proper accounting treatment.
- Provides financial input and analysis in furtherance of developing the Company’s long and short term business objectives.
- Supports annual financial audits by preparing audit work papers and supporting schedules.
- Responds to accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Actively supports month end closing process.
- Support project controls team.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial information applying advanced accounting principles.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
- Professional experience working with confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality.
- Strong working and current knowledge in month end close process.
- Ability and flexibility to work well within a group environment.
- Outstanding attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Intermediate or advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.
- 5 years in a Staff Accountant role.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Prior audit experience desirable.
- Engineering, Construction or Architecture industry experience preferred.
