Region Operations Manager

As the largest government contractor for these departments, we operate 103 locations nationwide.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Region Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of multiple Deli/Bakeries, as well as District Managers, in the assigned US region.  Serves as a leader in the development and motivation of Deli/Bakery Management and Associates. Creates an environment that increases sales, while encouraging productivity and excellence in food safety standards and customer service.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

 

  1. Supports Region Director in various operational and administrative tasks and programs.
  1. Oversee the day-to-day management of all operational aspects of Deli, Bakery and Hot Food departments and staff plus oversight of Sushi operations. Responsibilities include sales and profit growth, proper staffing, employee training, customer service, product presentation, cleanliness, sanitation, employee safety and compliance to the company’s Human Resources policies.
  1. Oversee food safety compliance by meeting the requirements of the Military Tri-Service Food Code. Ensures that daily, weekly and monthly inspections by the Military Food Inspectors meet or exceed standards and expectations.
  1. Promotes employee safe operating procedures and ensures that safety procedures are followed in the stores.
  1. Continuously promotes a positive work environment where company Human Resources policies and procedures are followed. Develop effective manager/employee relations and coaching standards. Responsible for morale and motivation of employees in the region and to maintain stable and competent team members by minimizing turnover.
  1. Ensure that District Managers, Deli/Bakery Managers and Associates deliver exceptional customer service to store shoppers and maintain positive working relationships with management personnel of the Defense Commissary Agency.
  1. Develop positive working relationships with DeCA Store Management and personnel.  Facilitate open communication and demonstrate responsiveness to issues or concerns.
  1. Train, coach and develop District Managers, Deli/Bakery Managers and Associates.  Enforce completion of company required training programs. Provide focused training to address staff deficiencies or to reinforce operational standards and company expectations.
  1. Effectively utilize reporting tools to monitor operational performance results, identify causes for underperformance and develop corrective action plans to resolve issues and bring about positive operational and financial changes.
  1. Develop and execute for each store a plan to maximize and increase sales and customer counts, to include the development of strategic plans for possible future projects or programs to reach more customers or to increase sales.
  1. Maximize Gross Margin through control of product mix, effective merchandising, control of salvage and shrink, and maintain effective procedures for inventory and price surveillance for nearby supermarkets.
  1. Effectively executes new product introductions and new merchandising programs in all departments to raise customer count in the stores. 
  1. Manage operating costs including budgeting of work hours and controlling the cost of labor.
  1. Works closely with District Managers, Deli/Bakery Managers and Human Resources to address job performance issues.
  1. Takes an active role in succession planning, to include the identification of those capable of career development and creating a development plan.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. A four-year college degree in an applicable discipline is highly preferred. A two-year associate’s degree can be considered when matched with 5 or more years of higher-level supervisory experience with a major supermarket chain that has an established training program.
  1. Minimum of five years’ supervisory experience managing multi-unit operations in the supermarket or food service industry.
  1. Proven leadership and team building skills; ability to motivate and manage all levels of employees both management and staff levels.
  1. Strong communication skills with a focus on ability to form clear written communications for interaction with Government officials.
  1. Demonstrated strong personal organizational skills.
  1. Excellent skills in financial analysis and investigation of causal factors.
  1. Solid computer skills including Excel and Word. The company will provide all the required equipment to create a robust home office.
  1. Ability to successfully handle the rigors of extensive overnight travel.
  1. Must have, or obtain upon employment, Food Safety Manager certification.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 

  1. Position is based from a home office with approximately 60% overnight travel to work at multiple deli/bakery locations.
  1. Ability to travel long distances by car on a regular basis to all deli/bakeries in the region.
  1. Ability to travel by plane as needed
  1. Ability to read and analyze hard written copy and information on a computer screen.
  1. Ability to verbally communicate in person and using a phone.
  1. Ability to listen for understanding and assist in problem solving                                      
  1. Carrying and lifting 30-50 pounds as needed to assist deli/bakery operation.                                                  
  1. Operating deli and bakery equipment as needed, to include occasional use of deli meat and cheese slicers and bakery ovens.

 

  1. Ability to stand and to walk for 8-9 hours per day with intermittent breaks
  1. Good driving record required for use of company car, to include routine and unannounced driving record checks conducted for MDBS liability insurance purposes.
  1. Ability to obtain and drive rental vehicles at different airports as needed.
  1. Ability to gain entry and drive a vehicle onto multiple military installations, which may entail routine criminal background checks conducted by the Military.
