General Role

The Development Director is responsible for the strategy, planning, management, and execution of fundraising efforts for both The MOAA Foundation and The MOAA Scholarship Fund. The Development Director is responsible for raising funds through the creation, cultivation, and maintenance of relationships, stewardship of present program donors, and management of the major donor portfolios and program grants. Additionally, this role will manage an endowment program and all program assessment processes to ensure objectives are met and will assist in new program development as needed. Supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Responsible for all aspects of the major donor program to include raising funds and growing and maintaining thriving corporate and private donor populations.
· Donor research and cultivation strategy: Conduct or manage prospect research. Build an annual outreach strategy and implementation plan to develop a repository of potential funders for eligible programs and sponsorship opportunities.
· Identify important trends and new opportunities for fundraising success, including emerging technological advances in the industry.
· Implement and manage Endowment and Capital campaigns to ensure critical programs are adequately funded long-term.
· Ensure proper gift recognition and a robust stewardship program. Manage fundraising and donor recognition events and grant programs within MOAA’s charities and work with MOAA stakeholders to execute stewardship plans for event donors and sponsors.
· Manage, maintain and analyze the donor database. Oversee the creation amd maintenance of a robust record keeping system for tracking donor participation, identification and cultivation of prospects.
· Analyze, with appropriate staff, fundraising strategy effectiveness and modify as needed. Report results to MOAA leadership and the Vice President of Development.
· Serve as the principal staff advisor to the MSF Board of Directors. Ensure the MSF and TMF are properly registered in all states requiring registration, fees are paid, and reports are filed in a timely manner.
· Work with State Street Global Advisors or other approved brokers to establish and manage gift annuities and gift trusts. Ensure appropriate software for preparing Gift Annuity contracts is current.
· Work with the MOAA General Counsel to secure testamentary gifts including real property, contested gifts, and engaging additional resources as necessary to complete gifts.
· Support the CFO, as required, in administering all financial aspects of MSF and TMF, including audits and tax information.
· File or coordinate appropriate documentation for CFC and state and local employee fundraising campaigns.
· Requires approximately 15 percent travel annually.
Required Professional Qualifications:
· Strong people skills. Demonstrated success in building major donor relationships and securing six and seven figure gifts.
· Demonstrated ability to speak comfortably and persuasively to groups of various sizes.
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy, including financial and stewardship reporting.
Professional Education and Experience:
· At least seven years of fundraising experience.
· Proficient in Salesforce or similar donor management systems.
· Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or CFRE is highly desired.
· Passion to support the greater military/veteran community.
· Strong understanding of the uniformed services is highly desired.
