Summary

About the Position : This position is with Defense Health Agency located at Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic, Behavioral Health, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

THIS IS A TERM NTE 3 YEARS.

This is an obligated position. You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation and willingness to be displaced under reduction in force procedures upon the return of the former incumbent.

Duties

  • Serves as a social worker providing individual, family, and group clinical counseling services using various evidenced based modalities as clinically indicated for beneficiaries, adults, which may include children.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans based on psychiatric diagnosis, identified problems and treatment needs for each case.
  • Provides individual, family, and group clinical counseling services using various evidenced based modalities as clinically indicated for adults and children.
  • Consults reference material, for example the most current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders(DSM), textbooks, manuals, and journals, to identify symptoms, make diagnoses, and develop therapeutic or treatment plan.
  • Provides case management services to effectively manage patients enrolled in behavioral intensive outpatient behavioral programs and prevent crises.

  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and / or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • Required to be on-call which includes evenings, weekends, holidays or special situations.
  • This position requires 5% TDY travel.
  • One Year probationary period may be required.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Clinical) :

    Degree : Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below :

    Specialized experience is defined as : One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations of behavioral health patients, providing individual or group counseling services, developing behavioral treatment plans, and providing treatment for patients with moderate to severe psychiatric diagnoses such as trauma, co-occurring disorders, or suicide.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    Licensure : A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 3 YEARS. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Defense Health Agency employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed / converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 3 YEARS by a current permanent Defense Health Agency employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
