What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Manager position at Milk Collection Services Of America Llc?
Trains and directly supervises the dispatch and load planning employees and oversees such other terminal staff members as may be assigned by the Terminal Manager. Under the supervision of the Terminal Manager, and in the absence of the Terminal Manager, may be entrusted with responsibility for day to day on-site management of terminal operations.
- Perform and supervise all aspects of the terminal dispatch and load planner functions including, but not limited to, the following:
- Monitor the status of deliveries in progress and maintain contact with drivers who are outside their window of delivery.
- Communicate with the receiving location concerning the delivery schedule and where necessary adjust a delivery window and/or reroute the truck to prevent a service failures.
- Utilize the available for service driver list and current available driving hours report to plan loads to be dispatched using the load planner spread sheet/PTA board.
- Match loads to drivers in conformity with the Companys no-forced dispatch policy.
- Where loads go unmatched, collaborate with the load planner to determine means to incentivize a driver to take the load.
- Where loads cannot be assigned to owner operators under contract to Company, assign loads to an approved third party carrier. Prepare routing and delivery instructions for the driver and ensure proper orientation.
- Where breakdowns occur during the delivery, support and assist staff to arrange response by a road repair/towing service. If repowering is required, determine the most expeditious means to dispatch a replacement unit and to facilitate the delivery.
- Maintain communication with the Back Haul Coordinator to assure that back hauls are promptly and efficiently integrated into load plans.
- Advise receiving location of drivers ETA.
- Where necessary, reroute truck or request a change in delivery window in order to avoid possible service failures.
- Utilize the available driver list and current available driving hours report to plan loads to be dispatched using the load planner spread sheet.
- Assure that all required corporate and/or customer reports are timely and accurately submitted.
- Oversee the protection and maintenance of all property and equipment assigned to the terminal.
- Enforce rules of conduct, safety and attendance for terminal staff and administer discipline with the advice and concurrence of the Terminal Manager and the Human Recourses Department.
- Adhere to and enforce all ethical standards by which the Company operates.
- Maintain flexibility to work various hours and shifts depending upon the operational needs of the terminal.
- Perform the duties of absent dispatch or load planner staff members.
- Such other functions as may be assigned.
Bachelors degree preferred. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Must have 2 or more years of trucking or related transportation logistics management experience.
- Experience in the management of dedicated fleet operations utilizing owner operators and hired drivers.
- Knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations.
- Supervisory experience dealing with employees possessing varied skill sets.
- Customer service experience preferably dealing with the time sensitive delivery of services.
- Experience using computerized accounting, billing, inventory, HR, and regulatory compliance software.
- Excellent organization skills, with the ability to multitask.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Sedentary office environment. Exerts up to 25 lbs. of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in an office, but may be required to spend a portion of the time in a warehouse, or outdoor trailer yard. Must have ability to work nights and weekends where required.
