The Milken Institute’s events and programmatic activities, involve the exchange of ideas with leaders from around the world. The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500 participants from around the world, featuring more than 900 speakers throughout 200 sessions over the course of the event.
About the Position
The Milken Institute seeks a Director to join our dynamic Global Programming team to advance the Institute’s thought leadership and editorial oversight of our signature event programs. Members of the Global Programming team oversee the content development and stakeholder engagement throughout all of the Milken Institute’s marquee events, including our flagship Global Conference.
Successful candidates will bring industry expertise, professional networks, and creativity to bear, adding value to the Institute’s programmatic reputation and event execution. Working closely with the Senior Director, and reporting to the Executive Director, of Global Programming, the incoming Director will support the growth of the team’s thought leadership, advisory council, and global collaboration related to event programming activities.
Responsibilities

Thought Leadership and Advisory Council
- Support the design, development, and maintenance of a Global Programming advisory council comprised of external, cross-industry thought leaders and content partners.
- Collaborate with Executive Director and Senior Director on program design, commitments and benefits, tenure and deliverables for council members.
- Develop, alongside senior staff, target list for trusted thought partners to advise on content development for signature Milken Institute events, including Global Conference.
- Lead creation of meaningful, year-round engagement strategy for council members and senior staff

Topical Research and Content Development:
- Conduct research on timely global challenges, priorities, and trends to inform program development, session descriptions, thought leadership, and talking points within speaker briefing materials.
- Staying abreast of important industry trends and current events. Identifying prominent and emerging leaders both within the US and internationally.
- Research and identify industry leaders, social entrepreneurs, innovative corporate executives, leading researchers, and public influencers to complement the existing high-level Milken Institute network.
- Contribute to creative ideation between relevant departments and Milken Institute programmatic Pillars to ensure the most relevant, innovative, and action-oriented content is highlighted at our convenings.

Relationship Management and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Bring in new cohort of relevant experts and contribute to an increasingly inclusive pool of cross-industry thought leaders to ensure that all Milken Institute programs reflect a diversity of both perspective and peoples.
- Support speaker outreach and relationship management with principals and organizations new to the Milken Institute.

Internal Coordination:
- Support inter- and intradepartmental communications to ensure smooth collaboration, effective processes, and deadlines are met for relevant deliverables.
- Keep relevant databases and Institute CRM up to date with accurate and thorough information.
- Maintain collaborative working documents within the programming department and across other teams as necessary/relevant.

Event Execution:
- Attend and staff Institute events as needed to support Global Programming team and assist with program oversight, speaker greeting, and the execution of a timely program.
- Duties as assigned
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in one or more of the following fields: journalism, think-tanks, research, or associations that focus on the field of global affairs, public policy, finance and/or technology.
- Previous experience managing advisory councils and/or board members of nonprofit organizations.
- Deep cross-industry relationships and professional networks aligned with the mission of the Milken Institute.
- An interest in, and an in-depth knowledge of, current industry trends, financial markets, technology, and global affairs.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and to work collaboratively across colleagues throughout the 300 person Milken Institute.
- The confidence to interact professionally and competently with corporate leaders, public figures, government officials, dignitaries, and other global policy leaders.
- Intellectually curious with drive to stay ahead of the information curve.
- An entrepreneurial, can-do spirit. Exceptional interpersonal skills and positive, collaborative personality. Ability and eagerness to think outside of the box.
- Able to embrace an attitude of "no job is too small,”, with laser-sharp attention to detail and high standards of excellence
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree strongly preferred, with a concentration in one or more of the following: journalism, finance, business administration, economics, history, or international affairs.
Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.
