The Milken Institute’s events and programmatic activities, involve the exchange of ideas with leaders from around the world. The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500 participants from around the world, featuring more than 900 speakers throughout 200 sessions over the course of the event.

About The Position

The Milken Institute is seeking a Senior Associate for the Events Department’s Outreach & Engagement team. This position reports to the Director, Events, Outreach & Engagement to support Milken Institute events by spearheading event marketing strategy and design: including, campaign strategy, email segmentation design, data/audience segmentation, campaign execution, monitoring, and marketing performance analysis.

The role will work closely with the Marketing & Communications teams to support the organization's brand awareness and adherence and assist on special projects, as assigned.

This candidate must have experience in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Strategize and Execute: Develop and implement compelling email marketing campaigns tailored to events to boost audience inquiries and registration conversions. Translate email send criteria into SQL queries to segment send lists and personalize email content.
  • Optimize Event Outreach: Craft segmented email campaigns that target both existing audiences and potential attendees to maximize engagement and revenue generation.
  • Performance Monitoring: Analyze campaign performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates, conversions) and continuously refine strategies to improve results.
  • Automation & Funnels: Design and manage automated email workflows, including drip campaigns and nurture sequences, to drive consultations and long-term engagement.
  • Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with the Marketing & Communications and Global Programming & Event teams to ensure email campaigns align seamlessly with overarching branding and event strategies.
  • Aesthetic Industry Expertise: Leverage your knowledge of trends, event psychology, and marketing in the non-profit, international, finance, and health space to craft email content that resonates with our target audiences.
  • Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Graphic Design, Marketing, or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and HTML5, Ampscript (or other dynamic scripting languages) for coding highly dynamic and personalized marketing content is required.
  • Proficiency in design applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.
  • Advanced understanding of user experience best practices and fundamental visual design principles (typography, layout, color, etc.).
  • Ability to work in a global hybrid team environment.
  • The ability to balance a love of pixel and content perfection with tight deadlines.
  • Experience designing and building campaigns within Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Strong understanding of UTM tracking, tagging strategies, and performance metrics.
  • Familiarity with compliance laws (GDPR, CAN-SPAM, CASL).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in SQL, A/B testing, Google Analytics, UTM tagging, and building customer joineries, and marketing pipelines.
  • A passion for creating simple, elegant, and engaging interface designs.
  • Certifications or licenses preferred: Salesforce or marketing certifications.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements

This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Santa Monica, CA or Washington, DC office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change at the Institute’s sole discretion.

This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.
