Summary: The Operations Supervisor, under the general direction of the Operations Manager, is responsible for the daily management and on-the-job supervision of both the specific project(s) and the employees assigned thereto. Typical duties include but are not limited to the trades of carpentry, painting, dry wall, electrical work, roofing, forestry, mechanic, welding, excavation, paving, concrete, masonry, HVAC, landscaping, janitorial, snow removal, metal work, pest management and equipment repair work. This position is suitable for transitional duty.
Primary Responsibilities Function Priority Percentage (Should = 100%)
- Supervision of related personnel and maintenance activities. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50%
- Supervises various full-time part-time and seasonal workers. ensures that daily actions and attitudes are of a positive and professional manner
- Reviews, approves and maintains all necessary records including but not limited to time cards, paid time off requests, training mandates, and administrative tasks
- Plans and schedules daily work projects and personnel required
- “Sets the pace” and maintains standard practices of both quantity & quality of work
- Ensures that all organizational policies, procedures and safety practices are followed
- Assists as directed with the ordering, scheduling, renting, delivery & storage of supplies, materials, tools and equipment; Includes the review and approval of delivery tickets and rental slips
- Assists with training, mentoring, disciplining and performance review of assigned staff
- Ensures the proper care and maintenance of all materials, tools, equipment and vehicles
- Assists with the preparation of the annual departmental budget request through acquiring quotes for supplies, materials, work, equipment, etc.
- Establishes and documents on-site safety meetings and work zone identification

- Operates project specific equipment including, but not limited to: heavy equipment, power tools, hand tools, survey and measuring equipment

- Road, parking lot and walkway maintenance; including snow and ice removal

Essential Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Must be highly organized, efficient and capable of managing numerous projects & personnel simultaneously within a high stress, fast paced environment.
- Must be able to maintain a continuous positive attitude
- Knowledge of current industry trends in the field of maintenance with knowledge of multiple construction trades best management practices
- Ability to operate various types of construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles
- Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form to a variety of audiences
- Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities in the operation of standard computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, e-mail, smart phone capabilities, time tracking software, etc.
- Ability to complete all tasks assigned and related deadlines in an efficient, timely and professional manner
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, manualsAbility to problem solve, plan and implement corrective actions
- Knowledge of MetroParks rules and regulations, policies and procedures, and union labor agreements.
Education/Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
- Preferred: Possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License
- Must possess a high school diploma along with completed formal training or education towards an associate degree or technical school certification or apprenticeship
- Minimum of (5) years maintenance or construction management experience
Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform Job Functions
- Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
- Able to perform hard physical labor in all indoor and outdoor environments
- Must be able to respond to emergency call outs
- Ability to work from different degrees of height by using ladders, tree climbing, scaffolding etc.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Hand dexterity/ ability to work with all necessary tools and equipment
- Able to bend and twist easily from waist
- Ability to reach above head with both arms
- Excellent eye sight and hearing
- Have physical and mental endurance to work long hours when necessary
- Ability to walk, traverse or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites and all properties under control of the MetroParks under all types of conditions
