Mill Falls is seeking a Social Worker with a desire to join our public school program which features, mixed-age/mixed-grade classrooms where the Montessori method is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Ideal candidates will have a commitment to Montessori education in a public setting, knowledge of best practices and hold a master’s in social work; school certification is not required.
Position Type: Part-time – 80% based on school calendar.
Benefits: Salary is competitive and is based on qualifications and experience.
The overarching role of the MFCS Social Worker is to train and support our staff, assisting in their understanding of and responses to student behaviors. Student observation, and in some cases perhaps some direct service work, will inform the staff training and support needs.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work; NH social work certification is not required
- A demonstrated willingness and ability to implement best practices in SEL education in conjunction with the Montessori curriculum and Common Core State Standards
- Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and parents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to plan lessons and keep progress records on students according to individual styles and aptitudes
- Strong leadership and student management skills
- Appreciation for diversity including students with learning disabilities and those from diverse families and socio-economic situations
- An open-mind and sense of humor
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide consultation with the Child Study and 504 Teams regarding Social Worker support
- Provide 1:1 or small group work with students as determined by 504, Special Education, and/or Child Study Teams
- Provide social-emotional lessons in the classrooms once weekly
- Provide professional development and resources to staff as requested
- Provide families with support services and resources as necessary
- Provide health support to our 5/6 grade students.
- Attend or review notes from staff meetings
- Lead student mentoring and conflict resolution programming
- Serve on the student crisis team
