LOCATION: Mill Middle School

 

DATES:  (July 7, 2025 - August 15, 2025

              (Monday through Friday for six weeks)

              July 2, 2025 (setup) and August 18, 2025 (closure)

 

STUDENT HOURS:      8:00am – 2:30pm

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must be NYS Certified School Psychologist, School Social Worker or School Counselor

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Provide support, counseling and case management services to individual students to address personal, social, or emotional issues related to their educational progress and development
  • Works closely with staff members, parents and other specialists to assist in the assessment, planning and program development for at-risk students and/or students with disabilities.
  • Work with families to facilitate understanding, promote constructive participation in resolving difficulties their child(ren) may be experiencing, and increase awareness of the availability of appropriate resources, making referrals to community agencies, services and programs for additional services when appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison between home and school, making home visits when additional follow-up is necessary.
  • Responsible for implementing threat/suicide assessment protocols.
  • Serve as a member of the Summer School Crisis Response team to respond to student and/or staff loss.
  • Respond to a range of mental health issues with best practice interventions.
  • Consult with students, parents, teachers and administrators to define and implement developmentally appropriate learning strategies, instructional and/or behavioral interventions, as well as socio-emotional supports for students.
  • Serve as a resource to colleagues to assist teachers in the development of remedial techniques regarding instructional strategies, assessment, accommodations and/or modifications to the curriculum and programs, including identification and implementation of tiered RtI strategies, PBIS and the development of Behavioral Intervention Plans, specific to an individual student and/or applicable to particular classroom situations.
  • Make recommendations for additional services when appropriate, including the triage of the student/family to community agencies, services and programs as needed.
  • Assist in the development of prevention programs and provides counseling and crisis intervention for individuals and small groups as the need arises. Serves as a member of the Summer School crisis response team and contributes to safety planning and post-vention activities.
  • Provide counseling directly to small group or individual students and, on occasion, some whole group instruction.
  • Conduct lethality assessments and participates as a member of the building threat assessment team.
  • Supervise the appropriate use and confidentiality of student records; maintains reports of contacts with pupils, parents, school conferences, agency contacts, etc.; and fulfills all paperwork requirements as required by District policy, procedure and /or state regulation.
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly in both oral and written form, completing all written reports in a thorough, comprehensive and timely fashion.
  • Additional related responsibilities as assigned by the Office of Exceptional Education and Student Services and/or Summer School Principal. 

CORE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Demonstrates a clear and comprehensive understanding, as well as accurate application, of New York governing regulations in the area of special education.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of New York State learning standards, FERPA, and state regulations governing the ethical provision of school psychology and/or counseling services.
  • Evidences a clear commitment to professional growth and skill development.
  • Prioritizes and addresses the needs of the building(s) to which she/he is assigned, which may also require traveling between sites within the same day.
  • Experience in the field and working with school-aged students.
  • Experience with child and family counseling; knowledge of family systems.
  • Experience coordinating with community agencies and resources.
  • Ability to handle crises, especially when lethality concerns and child protection issues are evident.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with students, parents, colleagues and support staff (aides, clerical, etc.) and supervisors.
  • Ability to motivate/instruct students in developing problem-solving skills and effective coping strategies.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in written form.
  • Solid counseling skills and ability to work with at-risk students and those with emotional and/or behavioral challenges.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.

  

Candidates must be available to work for the entire Summer School schedule without exception

 

Salary : $3,482 - $4,386
