Mill River Union High School School, located in the picturesque town of North Clarendon, Vermont, is seeking a dedicated and passionate .5 FTE Drivers Education Teacher to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. The Opportunity:

Mill River Union High School School is looking for an enthusiastic educator to teach high school drivers education. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) position focused on equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for safe and responsible driving. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in student-centered instruction and a commitment to improving outcomes for all learners.

  • Expertise in Drivers Education: Ability to teach safe driving practices, traffic laws, and vehicle operation.

  • Instructional Differentiation: Skill in adapting lessons to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to clearly convey safety concepts and driving techniques.
  • Relationship-Building: Strong rapport with students to foster a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Proficiency-Based Learning: Familiarity with proficiency-based learning and assessment practices.
  • Certification (or eligibility for certification) in Drivers Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Instruction: Instructs students in classroom-based drivers education, covering traffic laws, road safety, and responsible driving practices.
  • Behind-the-Wheel Training: Provides in-car driving instruction to students, focusing on skill development and safe driving habits.
  • Learning Environment: Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Behavior Standards: Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of safety and responsibility.
  • Goal Setting: Guides students through the process of obtaining their learners permit and/or drivers license.
  • Student Evaluation: Assesses students knowledge and driving skills through written assessments and practical driving evaluations.
  • Communication: Maintains regular communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff regarding student progress.
  • Collaborative Support: Works with school counselors, case managers, and other educators to support student success.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensures that all instruction adheres to Vermont state laws and safety regulations for drivers education.
