Mill River Union High School is looking for an enthusiastic educator to teach high school science. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing engaging, student-centered instruction in one or more science disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, or physics. This position is focused on fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific literacy among students.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to clearly convey complex scientific concepts.
  • Relationship-Building: Strong rapport with students to foster an engaging and supportive learning environment.
  • Proficiency-Based Learning: Familiarity with proficiency-based learning and assessment practices.
  • Certification (or eligibility for certification) in Science Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Instruction: Instructs students in high school science courses, using hands-on, inquiry-based teaching methods.
  • Curriculum Development: Designs and implements engaging lesson plans aligned with Vermont state standards and best practices in science education.
  • Learning Environment: Creates a classroom environment conducive to scientific exploration and discovery.
  • Behavior Standards: Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of academic integrity and responsibility.
  • Goal Setting: Guides students in developing their scientific inquiry skills and achieving academic goals.
  • Student Evaluation: Assesses students understanding and application of scientific concepts through various assessments, including lab work, projects, and exams.
  • Communication: Maintains regular communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff regarding student progress.
  • Collaborative Support: Works with school counselors, case managers, and other educators to support student success.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensures that all laboratory and classroom activities adhere to safety regulations and best practices.
