The Opportunity:

Mill River Union High School/Middle School is looking for an enthusiastic educator to teach four middle school social studies classes as part of our dynamic and supportive middle school team. This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) position with the potential to grow in future depending on student needs and staffing. The ideal candidate brings a passion for social studies, a creative approach to student-centered instruction, and a commitment to engaging young learners in meaningful, relevant learning experiences.

• Content Expertise: Strong knowledge of social studies content and pedagogy, especially for middle grades.

• Team Collaboration: Desire to work collaboratively with the middle school team, including interdisciplinary planning.
• Relationship-Building: Strong rapport with students and colleagues, and the ability to foster a safe, respectful classroom environment.
• Proficiency-Based Learning: Familiarity with and commitment to proficiency-based learning and assessment.
• Certification (or eligibility for certification) in Middle Grades or Secondary Social Studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach four sections of middle school social studies.
• Develop engaging, relevant curriculum aligned to standards and middle school team goals.
• Foster a classroom culture that is inclusive, respectful, and conducive to learning.
• Set and maintain clear behavioral and academic expectations.
• Assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Participate in team meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning.
• Design instruction that supports diverse learners and promotes critical thinking and civic engagement.
