Ceramics Faculty Member

Millbrook School
Millbrook, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 3/26/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/26/2025

Millbrook School seeks a ceramics teacher for the 25-26 academic year. Candidates should have the following technical experience:

  • Loading and firing electric and gas kilns and an interest in learning traditional wood-firing techniques
  • Mixing glazes from dry materials
  • Recycling clay
  • Experience with the following techniques: hand-building, slab and coil construction, wheel-throwing, mold-making, and slip-casting

Ceramics students at Millbrook create both functional ware and sculptural forms. Our featured annual ceramics event is the community firing of the outdoor Manabagama kiln. This is a vibrant program that serves students at the beginning of their journeys as artists as well as those who are advanced and may attend art school. Millbrook's art department is highly collaborative, working in the Holbrook Arts Center, where visual and performing arts are gathered under one roof. Here, teachers and students explore a contemporary framework for art making and performing that is interdisciplinary both within the arts center and beyond.

We seek educators who value creating inclusive classrooms and curriculum. Prior teaching experience is preferred. In addition to teaching four sections, this position includes coaching or supervising an afternoon program for two out of three seasons and serving as an advisor for up to six students. Energy for adolescents, adaptability, humor, and integrity are the hallmarks of Millbrook's faculty. Housing may be provided and would bring with it residential life duties. Placement in the salary range is based on experience, education, and all other factors permitted by law.

Millbrook School is eager to consider applications from individuals with backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities. As an equal opportunity employer, Millbrook School does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, citizenship status, sex, age, marital status, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.

Interested candidates should submit a brief cover letter, resume, and list of references to Joe Raciti, Art Department Chair, and Jasper Turner, Dean of Faculty, using our online hiring platform.
