For 30 years, Millbrook Tack has been supplying horse tack and western wear to riders in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2018, we acquired Al & Bob’s Sports, adding fishing, hunting, firearms, and other outdoor equipment to our 25,000-square-foot facility. Run by over 50 incredible professionals, Millbrook Tack and Al & Bob’s continues to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers. To that end, we are seeking a passionate, people-first General Manager to oversee store operations and take our people and business to yet another level of customer satisfaction and success.
About the Role
The General Manager has a commitment to the store team, customers, and the community they serve. They’re accountable for increasing company business results and delivering operational goals while prioritizing coaching and development to equip their team and ensure an enjoyable and hassle-free shopping experience for all customers.
Role Responsibilities
- Directly involved in the interview/hiring process; maintains store staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
- Completes store workforce requirements by scheduling and assigning employees
- Promotes optimum staff performance by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees
- Create relationships with your staff and customers; everybody’s role on the team matters, and it’s your responsibility to show them that
- Work hard to deliver the best experience possible for our guests, every time they visit; this means consistency and excellency at every opportunity
- Drives sales and profitability through customer satisfaction and data analysis to uncover customer and business trends, control expenses and workforce budgeting
- Monitor goals for revenue, customer service and other relevant metrics
- Identify opportunities to improve work environment and daily tasks
- Organize/participate in marketing meetings and major sale planning (March/spring, August/clearance, November/Black Friday)
- Make sure major sales are well organized; signage, staffing, extra registers, etc.
- Assist department managers with merchandising/layout ideas and brainstorming – we try to let people use their creativity within reason
Leadership Responsibilities
- Oversee the management team and assist them with hiring, employee interaction, and termination
- Manages team with a people-first focus by building trust, actively listening, and dedicating time to their team
- Leads through coaching and development and infuses learning into day-to-day leading
- Leads operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program procedures
- Juggle a range of responsibilities, including customer service, scheduling, training, and all other aspects of managing a team
- Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) years Retail Store Manager experience or eight (8) years of related management/customer-focused experience
- Natural talent for motivating and developing teams
- Ability to adapt to different customers
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving ability and analytical skills
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Experience with Retail Pro or some other management/point-of-sale software a plus
- Flexible availability – including early evenings, Saturdays, and holidays
