What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance (District-wide) Long Term Substitute position at Millbury Public Schools?
WORK DAYS: Monday through Friday (Full time, 40 hrs/wk or Part Time, 20 hrs/wk)
START DATE: ASAP
END DATE: June 30, 2025 (Tentative)
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
As a District Maintenance employee you will maintain the appearance and functional soundness
of our schools and facilities. Maintenance is responsible for maintaining equipment and
materials, and for ensuring adequate stock levels of consumables. Performs general maintenance
directed by the Director of Facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
● Ability to use the the district work order system
● Ability to follow through to verify work has been completed and work orders are closed
out properly
● Ability to work with outside vendors, engineers, contractors, and consultants on projects
affecting district facilities.
● Ability to provide excellent customer service to create a comfortable and safe
environment
● Perform regular inspections to identify problems within all facilities.
● Maintain inventory control of all tools needed for maintaining facilities.
● Knowledge of tools are needed for specific jobs and ensuring tools are clean, sharpened,
in working order, and stored safely.
● Ensuring the work area is free of kids, teachers, or any objects that may be damaged or
cause damage.
● Proper utilization of safety equipment to protect staff from injury or death.
● Preparing all areas by removing hazardous objects that may cause bodily harm or damage
to equipment prior to starting work.
● Making on-site preparations prior to starting work.
● Responsible for identifying, estimating, and prioritizing trade related improvements for
district properties.
● Ability to manage multiple priorities
● Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
● Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
● Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
● Ability to be on call and/or respond to emergency calls.
● Ability to work overtime as needed.
● Ability to promote and follow all Millbury Public Schools Educational policies as well as
building and department procedures.
● Ability to communicate, interact, work effectively and cooperatively with people
● Ensure all maintenance equipment is cleaned, inspected, and secured after each use, to
include all gas-powered hand equipment, hand tools, riding equipment, vehicles, etc.
● Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
● Ability to work with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure
replacement parts for tools and equipment.
● Ability to read blueprints and/or engineering instructions for the grounds trade assist with
construction/remodel plan reviews of grounds projects.
● Actively listening to customer preferences, maintaining documentation of system
installation and maintenance procedures.
● Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules,
practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe
conditions to the appropriate administrator.
