What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Direct Support Professional position at MIlle Lacs County Area DAC?
Mille Lacs County DAC is a day training and habilitation center. We specialize in assisting persons with physical and developmental disabilities to gain social and vocational opportunities. We provide education and support persons served to reach their full potential, reach their life goals and to grow in their community.
This is a full time union position in Princeton which works Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm and has an excellent benefit package including, paid holidays, vacation, sick & personal time, as well as, medical and dental coverage, life insurance and a 401(k) plan.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, minimum 18 yrs of age, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, and be able to pass a background check. Must maintain a positive attitude when working with persons served and representing the agency and treat program participants with kindness and respect. Must qualify for employment under MN Rules 9543.3070, Applicant Background Study.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Teach program participants skills to increase independent functioning in the community and at home. Teaching will take place in the community as well as in the center. Attention will be directed toward teaching work-related skills, increased integration, personal hygiene, gross motor coordination, self-awareness, socialization, eating, cooking, shopping, dressing, grooming, leisure-time activities, money handling and other life skills. Work related skills include social and hygiene skill development necessary to maintain a job placement.
2. Fulfill the requirements of the Functional Job Description as outlined in Appendix A.
3. Prepare for, organize, and instruct individuals, classes, and work sites. This includes organizing work projects and job set-up, moving materials, checking for quality control, counting, and packaging parts, loading, and unloading inventory and driving DAC forklift.
4. Provide care and training in personal hygiene. This will include lifting and assisting persons served in such areas as toileting, changing, showering, etc. This may mean lifting persons served unaided.
5. Maintain necessary records relating to, among other things, weekly documentation of person’s goal progress, medication administration policy, and transportation policy. Maintenance of records includes tracking persons served behavior programs, production, rehabilitation, performance assessments, contractors’, and DAC inventory.
6. Transport persons served during the day as needed to and from community sites. This includes operating a wheelchair lift, helping persons on and off the van using a ramp or lift when required, and securing wheelchairs in the van using securement devices.
7. Responsible for the safety of the participants while in transit, in program, and during loading and unloading times.
8. Escort persons served into the community for appointments and/or other community integrations. Escort will be done by walking, driving van or pushing wheelchairs, as the situation requires.
9. Understand and provide person centered practices to each individual.
10. Set and maintain professional boundaries with the individuals.
11. Regular attendance and punctuality.
12. Skills in computer based systems and ability to learn new technology programs as needed.
OTHER JOB DUTIES:
1. Promote the business of the employer and of the program participants
2. Duties will be performed as needed in all areas of individuals training: Living Skills, Community Skills, Center Based Work and Community Based Work.
3. Attend and participate in required meetings and training.
4. Read, understand and comply with the policies of the DAC, FDA, Federal and State Wage and Hour requirements, and OSHA requirements particular to the job and job site.
5. Perform general housekeeping duties to keep van and work areas clean.
6. Report to appropriate office staff when maintenance and repairs are needed. Anticipate difficulties and correct them before they become serious.
7. Move materials, quality control, count and package parts and train participants for DAC subcontract jobs.
8. Responsible for all facets of the individual’s job site training program. This includes transporting persons to and from job sites, assessing performance at the job site and developing person’s work and social skills required to maintain the placement.
9. Schedule persons to work at the job site at a time that is acceptable to the company being serviced.
10. Coordinate work projects with the Milaca work program.
11. Provide social development programs for participants.
12. Reporting incidents, accidents, and seizures to the Designated Coordinator.
13. Report accidents, no matter how small, to the Safety Committee.
