To provide building and grounds-related maintenance and custodial services in and around County buildings while following established safety policies and procedures when performing work and operating equipment.
This position is covered under the Local 70 bargaining unit. Complete 2024 pay scale is $18.89-$25.22/hr; bargaining contract has not yet been settled to determine rates of pay for 2025 and beyond Starting hiring range for this vacancy is $19.70/hr - $21.91/hr.
This job description indicates the normal type and level of work expected of the incumbent. Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
- Cleans and maintains buildings and county fleet vehicles according to established guidelines, with a primary focus on disinfection, including, but not limited to: cleans and provides proper carpet and floor care by using vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, and commercial carpet machine; hand cleaning; and operating stripping machine and high speed buffers; dusts all floors, walls, woodwork, furniture, and miscellaneous areas as needed; empties trash and recycling containers; cleans kitchens and restrooms, including all fixtures and appliances; restocks paper supplies and cleaning supplies; cleans interior windows and mirrors.
- Cleans and maintains grounds and building exteriors including, but not limited to: painting, trash removal, weeding, and exterior cleaning of sidewalks, parking lots, ground level windows, and grounds. Cleans county fleet cars.
- Performs security duties such as locking and unlocking building doors as requested, escorting contractors and vendors in and around secure areas, turning lights on and off as assigned, monitoring building security, and notifying supervisor of any concerns.
- Uses appropriate cleaning products. Interprets and understands directions on chemical labels to ensure safe use of chemicals. Reads and understands material safety data sheets (SDS) on chemical use.
- Under oversight of the Facility & Fleet Operations Manager, provides for the safe operation of boilers in accordance with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry regulations.
- Responsible for snow and ice removal from sidewalks, lawn care, landscaping and associated grounds maintenance.
- Assists in general building maintenance related to painting and light drywall work. Inspects and replaces light bulbs in all county facilities.
- Performs and records monthly safety checks in all county facilities.
- Collects and delivers mail to the post office.
- Assists with monitoring and organizing supplies inventory.
- High school diploma or equivalent, and one-year of custodial experience cleaning buildings and/or maintaining grounds; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully complete a criminal history background check prior to hire and ongoing every 3 years in accordance with BCA requirements and BCA Level 1 Training/Certification.
- Ability to obtain a specialist boiler’s license from the State of Minnesota, Department of Labor and Industry, Division of Boiler Inspection, within six months of hire.
- Class D Driver’s License.
