What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Design Engineer position at Millennium International Avionics?
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Research and Development department. In this role, you will lead and contribute to projects focused on developing advanced repair and testing capabilities for Avionics Line Replaceable Units (LRUs). This includes identifying components or circuits with a high potential for failure and suggesting or developing components to enhance safety, reliability, and longevity.
As the Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, reverse-engineering, analysis, and troubleshooting of electrical hardware and circuitry. You will work with a variety of electrical and electro-mechanical systems, including weather/radar, flight controls, video displays, power supplies, and data processing. Your tasks will include schematic design and PCB trace routing, reviewing schematics and system wiring diagrams to perform qualitative analyses such as:
- Assessing potential failure mechanisms based on environmental factors and usage
- Determining and verifying circuit function and interfacing requirements
- Ensuring adherence to component and signal specifications
In addition, you will play a key role in supporting the department’s efforts to source vendors and obtain quotes, establish project plans, and estimate time requirements for task completion.
This role requires deep expertise in electrical hardware design and troubleshooting, as well as hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assembly, circuit integration, and familiarity with industry standards for circuit card assembly design. We value creativity and innovation, and speed to market is essential for our success.
Responsibilities
- Rapidly design and develop electrical systems in accordance with component datasheet specifications, industry standards, and best practices.
- Conduct qualitative circuit analysis to quickly identify electrical issues, lack of conformance to the above, and identify likely future failure points.
- Analyzing input and output signals of LRU components.
- Determining the functional requirements of LRUs, their components, and their signals.
- Determining requirements for needed test equipment and design.
- Extracting relevant data from Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs) and Service Bulletins (SBs).
- Utilize Altium for creating detailed electrical schematics and layouts.
- Collaborate with FPGA firmware engineers to integrate hardware with software solutions.
- Draft functional block diagrams and Bills of Materials.
- Use Altium for modeling, simulating, and analyzing dynamic systems.
- Perform soldering tasks as needed for prototype development.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Reverse-engineering circuit card assemblies.
- Assembling electro-mechanical assemblies for test equipment and prototypes.
- Reviewing and approving the electrical designs of other engineers.
- Participating and collaborating in multiple weekly project meetings covering 10 or more projects
- Participate in the use Autodesk Upchain for Product Development Management and Monday.com for Project Management
Required Skills

- Willingness to adapt to different processes and procedures
- Proficient in qualitative circuit analysis techniques to troubleshoot complex electrical problems.
- Experience with finding failures in electrical systems due to age and environmental factors.
- Experience with soldering techniques for electronic component assembly.
- Proficient in using software for drafting electrical layouts and schematics.
- Familiarity with common telecommunication protocols such as RS232 and RS422.
- Ability to reverse-engineer a circuit including CCAs.
- 5 years' experience with taking a concept idea and put a plan together and helping to estimate time and cost.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience with electrical hardware.
Education
- Requires either a BSEE or an engineering undergrad with a Masters in electrical engineering.
