Full time position at Miller County Road Department

The Miller County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator to work at the Road Department in Colquitt, Georgia.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting in road and infrastructure maintenance activities. Also may include transport the use of light to medium equipment.

DUTIES

• Assist in maintenance activities such as installing pipes, clearing roads, grading dirt, building ditches, clipping shoulders, widening right of ways.
• Operates light equipment to assist in removing debris, installing signs, and other maintenance activities as needed.
• Performs regular inspections and maintenance on assigned equipment such as checking fluids, replacing hoses, etc.
• Work outdoors in extreme temperatures both hot and cold.
• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties.
• Able to be on call and have valid mobile number and be able to be reached at all times when on call.
• Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Roads Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES
Guidelines include County policies and procedures, related federal, state and local laws, and related safety standards. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

SCOPE OF WORK

• The work consists of related light to medium equipment operation as needed and maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to support road and infrastructure maintenance activities. Success in this position helps ensure safe and serviceable County roads.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of colors, and utilizes a sense of smell.
• The work exposes the employee to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemical, the outdoors and occasional inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED
• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Pass a background and pre employment drug test, once hired be subject to random drug screens. Miller County is a zero tolerance county.

Range from $13.00 per hour to $16.00 per hour based on experience.
