Job Summary :
The Settlement Fund Associate is a position within the Settlement Fund group of the Tax Department. The Settlement Fund Associate is responsible for preparing fund accounting, quarterly estimated taxes, and tax returns for Qualified Settlement Funds (“QSFs”) under the oversight of managers and partners. The Settlement Fund Associate works with partners and managers to build and maintain relationships with administrators, law firms, lawyers, administrative agencies, courts, receivers, trustees and other industry leaders to provide tax support and other services. Among other important engagements, the Settlement Fund group manages the firm’s role as Tax Administrator for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
While the Settlement Fund group is part of the Tax Department, the Settlement Fund Associate is a dedicated position within the Settlement Fund group and does not work on general tax engagements for the Tax Department.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Assist with tax-related client issues, research, and transactions.
- Communicate directly with existing clients, colleagues, and management regarding various tax matters.
- Compute taxes owed, follow tax form instructions and tax tables for federal and state income tax compliance and planning.
- Prepare income tax returns for QSFs.
- Prepare quarterly tax estimates, tax and fee reserves, consolidated fund accounting reports (CFARs), and other reports as required.
- Review financial records (e.g., bank statements) and governing documents (settlements, judgments, orders, etc.) to determine QSF tax compliance obligations.
- Review fund transactions for annual information reporting obligations (1099, 1042-S, etc.).
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
