What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician position at Miller Pharmacy Specialties?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Greet patients, customers, and visitors with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Handle pharmacy customer questions, including the resolution of insurance issues, over the phone and in person with direction from pharmacist(s) on duty as needed.
- Perform routine tasks to prepare, dispense, and stock prescribed medication, such as counting tablets, maintaining inventory, retrieving medication, labeling bottles, and packing boxes for shipping.
- Enter data in computer system such as recording all prescriptions, purchase orders and stock orders.
- Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain records such as filing physicians' orders and prescriptions.
- Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, and inform supervisors of stock needs/shortages.
- Other duties as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Current State of Nebraska Pharmacy Technician Registration, in good standing along with proof of completion of a board approved state or national pharmacy technician certification program.
- If a newly hired employee is not currently registered as a technician, they must obtain registration through the state of Nebraska prior to starting as a technician.
- Once a candidate becomes newly registered as a technician with the state, the candidate MUST show completion of a certification exam through a board approved state or national pharmacy technician certification program within one year from registration date.
- Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronics Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing while protecting patient and customer privacy and confidentiality.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Proficient in entering information into a computer accurately to maintain records.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- One or more years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a licensed pharmacy preferred or experience in a healthcare field.
- Knowledge of prescriptions, medications, and pharmacy procedures/best practices
