Position Reports To: Department Manager, Senior Design Staff
Position Purpose
Provide advanced drafting and intermediate piping design support to the Design Services team. This is an onsite, direct-hire position based in Wichita with no remote or hybrid options.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Complete design projects accurately and on time, working independently while collaborating with Team Leaders.
- Create 2D and 3D designs using AutoCAD; proficiency in CadWorx is required.
- Draft plans, construction drawings, and piping system layouts based on P&IDs.
- Conduct fieldwork to gather measurements, create dimensioned sketches, and locate tie-ins.
- Generate accurate isometric drawings and Bill of Materials documents.
- Prepare layouts, models, and designs for complex piping systems, incorporating safety, operability, and maintainability.
- Manage 3rd-party designers to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Participate in design and model review meetings, driving discussions with project teams and customers.
- Interpret piping stress analysis reports and coordinate with stress engineers to ensure economical and safe designs.
- Utilize scanned point cloud files to produce accurate piping models.
- Review and check work prepared by others, offering constructive feedback.
- Estimate man-hours for design services and monitor progress against budgets and schedules.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate degree or technical degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience:
- 5-10 years of piping design experience preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (current version or within last three versions), CadWorx, Navisworks, and ReCap required.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of MS Office and ability to read technical drawings.
- Familiarity with AISI, AISC, ASME, and ASTM specifications preferred.
- Experience with construction and fabrication techniques is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Up to 10% travel required for field measurements and drafting scope assessments.
- Ability to sit for extended periods, climb ladders, and work on elevated platforms.
- May involve exposure to loud noises, varying weather conditions, and fumes.
