Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Library Director, this seasonal position supports library operations by performing essential duties in the Circulation and Reference areas. Responsibilities include assisting patrons, managing library materials, and maintaining efficient workflows to ensure smooth library operations. The role requires a commitment of 18.5 hours per week, with specific hours assigned by the Library Director.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Patron Assistance: Assist library patrons with the use of library materials, equipment, and services. Provide guidance in locating requested books, reference materials, audio books, etc.
- Library Card Management: Issue library cards to eligible patrons, create and maintain library accounts, and ensure all information is accurate and up-to-date.
- Materials Management: Ensure that loaned materials are returned in a timely manner. Send out appropriate notices regarding overdue books, audio books, and other materials.
- Fee Collection: Assist with the collection of fees for past-due materials and books. Reconcile fines in accounts.
- Check-In/Check-Out: Check books and other materials in or out in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
- Shelving and Organization: Shelve books and other materials, ensuring proper organization and accessibility.
- Reference Services: Answer reference questions and assist patrons with locating requested materials.
- Communication: Answer incoming calls, provide information to callers, and refer them to appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Facility Maintenance: Clean and maintain the library facility, including bathrooms, shelves, and furniture.
- Other Duties: Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in commonly used computer programs, including Microsoft Office.
- Customer Service: Strong customer service skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and people in a polite and professional manner.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, vision, and writing skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Interact effectively with library patrons, local and regional officials, co-workers, community organizations, and the public.
- Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality and respect individual privacy and rights in dealing with customer and/or employee records and personal information.
