Job Summary/Basic Function
Millersville University is accepting applications for a Patrol Officer. The Patrol Officer is a law enforcement position with a focus on contributing towards the quality of University Life by protecting persons and property on Millersville University campus. All patrol officers actively engage in a partnership based upon mutual respect with the campus community. Patrol officers are friendly, welcoming and caring to students, employees, and visitors. Patrols campus on foot, bicycle, or by motor vehicle. Enforces crime and vehicle codes and University rules and regulations. Works with local police as needed. Apprehend and arrest violators as needed. Makes reports in writing and computer. Testifies at legal proceedings as necessary. Maintain firearm safety. Successfully qualifies with department issued firearms bi-annually including night fire. Maintain physical conditioning to be able to handle the physical requirements of position to include running, bicycling, lifting, and detaining individuals in disturbances, etc. Officers will never betray their integrity, character, or the public trust. Officers treat all individuals with dignity and respect and ensure their actions are dedicated to ensuring the safety of my community and the preservation of human life. Officers will always have the courage to hold themselves and others accountable for our actions. The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified Patrol Officers. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified Patrol Officers.

Pay Rate: $23.77 per hour plus comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrol campus by foot, vehicle, and bicycle.
- Respond to calls for assistance (criminal and general assistance)
- Respond to calls for fire, burglary alarms.
- Respond to emergencies on campus.
- Patrol campus property and building to assure proper security of the same, including, but not limited to, locking, and unlocking of facilities, precluding theft, vandalism, and loitering, and reporting of general building and grounds security issues.
- Complete and file reports of crimes and other police matters and conduct initial investigations.
- Assist other local law enforcement agencies at the direction of the lead officer.
- Provide transportation and escort services to students and other visitors to campus.
- File appropriate criminal charges for violations of Commonwealth Laws and/or enforce vehicle code violations.
- Investigate traffic accidents and prepare reports.
- Direct traffic, enforce parking regulations, make criminal arrests, serve warrants, transport prisoners, take fingerprints, transport funds for university deposits, testify in court, attend arraignments and preliminary hearings, and enforce university police and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Act 120 completion by the date of hire
- Work experience enforcing procedures regulated by federal, state, or local governments.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic PC skills.
- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience working with diverse groups at athletic, social, and cultural events.
- Ability to work with students of diverse cultures, racial and ethnic groups.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in coordination with others.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Successfully obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within the first 90 days of employment.
- Successfully pass firearm qualification within the first 90 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with college-age population.
- Prior experience in parking and crowd control.
- Bi-lingual.
- Knowledge of community policing fundamentals.
Essential Functions
- Must work in every physical environment that exists on campus.
- They may be exposed to extreme weather conditions that includes rain, snow, wind, heat and cold in the performance of their duties.
- They may need to sit in a vehicle on surveillance for long periods or stand for hours monitoring crowds at events in campus facilities.
- They may be on extended periods of foot patrol, walking around the 225-acre campus, or on bicycle patrol cover both paved and unpaved terrain.
- May need to run or jump while apprehending a person involved in illegal acts or inappropriate behavior.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds without assistance and move more than 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must work outside for up to 6 hours a day.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse, firearm, and other personal defense equipment.
