Job Summary / Basic Function

The assistant director is an essential part of the Campus Life team, overseeing leadership development initiatives and work directly with are student organizations. The assistant director will also supervise student staff who work directly with our leadership development initiatives and student organizations. The assistant director’s primary focus is to coordinate and access programs and processes as it relates to developing student leaders.

  • Oversee the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of student leadership programs, includes developing curriculum, identifying program presenters, scheduling programs, tracking participation, creating marketing materials, facilitating workshops, and administering incentives.
  • Supervise undergraduate student employee “Leadership Consultants” and / or interns who serve as liaisons to student organizations and plan leadership initiatives.
  • Design, implement and coordinate themed weekends / weeks, retreats, and certificate series focused on leadership development.
  • Manage, coordinate, promote, and facilitate the Annual Leadership Awards Banquet.
  • Work collaboratively and innovatively with various University departments, student organizations, and other campus / community partners to create and implement diverse leadership programming that meets the needs of today’s emerging leaders.
  • Student Organizations :

  • Manage and oversee the annual student organization registration process, including, but not limited to, creating marketing materials, facilitating informational workshops, reviewing, and providing feedback on submissions, maintaining records, approving / denying submissions, etc.
  • Review event submissions for student organizations on the engagement platform and connect the organization to proper resources that support their program.
  • Coordinate, develop, facilitate, and assess the annual Student Organization Leadership Conference.
  • Develop ongoing programs, trainings, workshops, resources, and support materials that equip student organizations and advisors with the tools needed to effectively lead and support the efforts of student engagement and leadership development on campus. Topics include, but are not limited to, hazing, Title IX, budgeting, officer transition, fundraising, leadership development, event planning and registration, risk management, conflict management, University and department policies and procedures, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Student Government Association in assisting students in the chartering and onboarding of new student clubs and organizations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the fall and spring student organization fair for clubs and organizations.
  • Provide ongoing support, advisement, and training materials for student organizations to become proficient users of the Get Involved online student engagement platform.
  • Serve as the point person for Get Involved, Millersville University’s online student engagement platform powered by Anthology / Campus Labs Engage platform.
  • Provide support to student leaders and student groups and organizations to support student-led activities and programming initiatives.
  • Coordinate the anti-hazing policy enforcement process for student clubs and organizations. Provide educational opportunities and resources on risk reduction for clubs and organizations.
  • Campus Activities :

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate a broad range of diverse activities and programs that promote the immersion, inclusion, retention, personal and intellectual development, and engagement of the student body, including, but not limited to, EPPIIC Weekend, Weeks of Welcome, Final Stretch, Homecoming, etc.
  • Work collaboratively and innovatively with various University departments, student organizations, and other campus / community partners to create and implement diverse student-centered programming.
  • Coordinate marketing initiatives for activities and events by managing relevant Get Involved pages, social media outlets, printed materials, website, and Campus Life calendar of events.
  • Serve as an administrative advisor to the University Activities Board (UAB).Provide oversight and direct support for the recruitment, selection, and training of UAB members.Assist in the planning, facilitation, and assessment of signature UAB programming, activities, retreats, and events such as Super Fest, late-night programming, etc.Attend regional / national conferences with members of UAB.Provide oversight, vision, and guidance for each of the UAB Directors of Programming.
  • Administrative :

  • Maintain records of programming initiatives including program agendas, budgets, and evaluations.
  • Oversee and efficiently manage programming budget.
  • Promote departmental initiatives and disseminate information pertinent to the campus community.
  • Departmental communication and decision-making.Attend and participate in regular departmental meetings.Assist in the development and implementation of office policies and procedures.Serve on departmental / division-wide committees as assigned by the director.Keep the director informed about critical issues and concerns in the area.Respond promptly and professionally to all electronic communication.Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic calendar.
  • Work holistically as a member of the Campus Life professional staff team to foster the growth and development of students outside the classroom through the ongoing development and assessment of learning outcomes, evaluating the student engagement experience, supporting office and division-wide signature programs (Homecoming, Orientation, Family Weekend, etc.), and creating new and innovative student engagement opportunities.
  • Assist in the supervision of student staff and graduate assistant.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Professional work experience in higher education.
  • Experience in student leadership development / programming.
  • Experience advising student clubs / organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated evidence of establishing and maintaining positive, professional, and supportive relationships with students.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Successful interview and three background check.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, student services, leadership, or related field.
  • Three years of professional experience working in higher education within an office of student involvement or campus activities.
  • Three years of experience in student leadership development / programming.
  • Three years of experience advising student clubs / organizations.
  • Experience working with Orgsync, Engage, or similar student engagement platforms.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successfully facilitating / teaching leadership development workshops, programs, and / or events.
