POSITION TITLE
Process Safety Professional - Chemicals
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Chemical Division Process Safety Professional (reporting to the Director Health & Safety - Chemical Division) will be responsible for delivering top quartile process safety performance focused on our chemical manufacturing locations. This associate will coordinate and drive best practices of our process safety efforts including but not limited to: Process Safety Management (PSM), and associate training and development. He/she will work closely with corporate, division, and plant associates to align objectives, targets and projects focused on reducing risk and improving process safety. He/she will coordinate activities across our manufacturing facilities (currently 3 locations in the Upstate of South Carolina, one location in Florida, Kentucky & Pennsylvania) to ensure the deployment of best practices and sharing of opportunities and successes. This associate will actively engage in compliance audits at our facilities such as PSM, MI, LOPA & PHA.
Valued experience includes time spent working on breakthrough performance with organizations that handle, manufacture, and process hazardous chemicals. A working knowledge of Process Safety and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) is required. Experience working for and with the safest companies in the chemical industry is preferred.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring best practices across all elements of the PSM standard
- Assessing the chemicals handled in our facilities and recommending improved engineering and administrative controls to reduce risk and exposure
- Liaison with consultants on risk reduction opportunities and engineering controls
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to Development to evaluate the chemical hazards of new products and prepare our manufacturing plants via engineering or administrative controls with emphasis placed on facility siting
- Participate in safety reviews of new equipment installations and process changes
- Involved in incident investigation and Corrective/Preventative Action implementation for process safety
- Coordinate associate training on relevant process safety topics
- Coordinate risk reduction projects across the division
- Standardize PSM processes across the Division such as PHA, LOPA, MI, SIS, FSS
- Attend multi-site Process Safety Committees to standardize practices across the Division
- Global position
- Up to 25% Travel
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering, with applicable experience.
- 15 years of Process Safety Management
- PHA/LOPA facilitation
- Development and continued education for Process Safety Professionals
- Ability to build a global PSM culture.This includes strengthening the organizations in our plants to manage process safety risks in line with all the elements of the CCPS standard
- Ability to specify engineering safeguards and work closely with plant engineers to ensure effective & efficient risk mitigation
