MILLIKIN UNIVERSITY invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music to serve as Coordinator of Instrumental Jazz Studies. Completed doctorate required. Documented history of exceptional professional activity in instrumental performance (e.g. jazz, orchestral, chamber music, solo); evidence of successful teaching in both the applied studio and classroom; and the ability to attract and retain students are essential. Primary responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of the instrumental jazz program; directing Jazz Band I and other ensembles as needed; teaching applied lessons (classical & jazz). Music theory/aural skills, commercial arranging, improvisation, and instrumental methods classes are other potential teaching assignments based on the successful candidate’s skills and experience. Expectations include engaging in recruitment and retention initiatives; performing as principal in the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra; performing in the Faculty Jazz Ensemble; university service in the form of faculty governance; and involvement with the campus community. Candidates demonstrating commitment to academic advising, entrepreneurship, and community outreach will receive strong consideration. Position begins August 2025.
