MAJOR PURPOSE
 
The Estimator will assist in the execution of Mills & Nebraska’s business strategies to meet objectives in a timely manner while supporting the Company’s mission, vision and values.  The Estimator will successfully estimate jobs to established standards and follow up on bids to successfully close projects.
 
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • To provide bid proposals to major contractors for the scope of work required on a project to project basis
  • Identify projects to bid on that meet profitability goals
  • To read and interpret details and specifications
  • To track projects as assigned to bid against
  • To review contract drawings and specifications
  • Enter data into estimating software
  • To check for errors and commissions
  • To maintain acceptable profit margins as directed by Management.
  • To directly communicate with contractors to seek knowledge and information that ensures information and requests for data is met and understood
  • To actively follow up on bids in an effort to close out all possible work opportunities
  • To quote all approved General Contractors job specific
  • To participate in kickoff meetings with Project Managers and Detailers
  • Actively work from a position of selling to and negotiating with contractors developing long term and beneficial relationships
  • To serve as the initial point of contact for General Contractors and Vendors
  • To create jobs files by downloading project plans and specifications
  • Make revisions/changes post bid/quote
  • To prepare quote documents and proposals
  • Use sound professional judgment while representing the Company

REQUIREMENTS
 
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
 
  • Computer proficiency, with ability to work in MS Office based programs to include Outlook email
  • Willingness to learn PROTECH, and possibly On Screen Take Off software and use software with proficiency
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills

  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Effective written communications skills
  • Above average verbal communication skills
  • Time management skills
 
EDUCATION/EXPEREINCE:
 
  • At least a high school diploma; additional studies preferred in technical training specific to the needs/requirements of the position.
  • This position requires a minimum of 1-3 years of like/similar experience preferably supporting a manufacturing or production capacity with hands on knowledge.
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Must be able to continuously see. Must be able to frequently stand, walk, view computer monitors, give & receive oral communication, bend, squat, reach above shoulder level, and discern color. Must be able to occasionally sit, drive, type, and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Must be able to regularly lift/carry up to 10 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to do repetitive simple grasping, fine manipulation on a frequent basis.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and drive to and from work locations.
  • Must be able to travel as required for Company business.
