What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metal Fabricator II position at Mills & Nebraska?
MAJOR PURPOSE
The Metal Fabricator II will be responsible for and assembling structural metal products, such as framework or shells for machinery, and metal parts for build door and window hardware according to job order, verbal instructions, and blueprint specifications. Demonstrate having a positive attitude, leading by example and being a team player. The Metal Fabricator II will perform his/her job in a way that supports the Company’s commitment to safety in the work environment and execute tasks that support the company’s mission, vision and values.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal.
- Locates and marks bending and cutting lines onto workpiece.
- Act as a safety liaison, to include applying the 6s initiatives
- Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
- Designs and constructs templates and fixtures.
- Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape.
- May fabricate and assemble sheet metal products.
- May set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating shops, such as radial drill press, end mill, and edge planer.
- Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications
- Cuts work pieces using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife
- Removes rough spots from work pieces using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper
- Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts
- Performs Other related duties as assigned.
AUTHORITY:
The Metal Fabricator II acts within company policy and will do whatever is required to carry out effectively the operational goals of Mills & Nebraska.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience setting up and operating fabrication machines, (PLC/CNC), multiax, drill press, brakes, rolls, shears, band saw, radial arm saw, puches.
- Strong team orientation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively

REQUIREMENTS
- Associates Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
- 3 or more years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Must have proficient welding skills and be able to pass a weld test
- Demonstrates initiative and follow-through
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and determine task priorities
- Organizational and personnel management skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to frequently stand, walk, bend, squat.
- Must be able to reach through high and low levels
- Must be able to regularly lift 60 lbs. and occasionally lift/carry up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to do repetitive simple grasping, fine manipulation, and pushing & pulling on a frequent basis.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and drive to and from work locations.
- Must be able to travel as required for company business.
STAFF/BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Metal Fabricator II will not have direct reports or staff.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS
The Metal Fabricator II works with all levels of management, including owners, managers, and supervisors within the Company. The Metal Fabricator will take general direction and assist all staff in performing his/her essential job functions.
