Summary
The employee in this position is responsible for the correct operation of the centrifuges to effectively remove solids from juice prior to the filtering process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

• Properly set controls for all required Centrifuge operations including prefill time, partial desludges, total desludges, and CIP mode.
• Maintain proper air pressure and water pressure of centrifuges.
• Read and maintain digital controls.
• Discharge waste at appropriate solids level to approved collection point.
• Remove the appropriate amount of sediment from juice through effective use of centrifuge.
• Maintain desired flow rate through equipment to keep the proper juice balance in the plant.
• Effectively clean centrifuges using proper chemicals and recommended cleaning procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of proper chemical handling and first aid treatment for chemicals used.
• Use CIP system to clean one centrifuge while the other centrifuges are in operation.
• Disassemble and assemble equipment as needed as cleaning or repair.
• Operate chain hoist to remove the hood and bowls from centrifuges.
• Communicate with press operator and filter operator regarding product levels and sediment percents.
• Fill out operator reports with correct equipment settings and record sediment levels.
• Working knowledge of electrical power sources for power shutoffs and lockouts for equipment cleaning or repairs.
• Must wear approved hearing protection when equipment is operating.
• Fill out maintenance request forms to communicate regarding necessary repairs.
• Read instruction manual when necessary to trouble-shoot problems.
• Operate a lab centrifuge to determine sediment percents.
• Shovel product discharge into bins when spills occur.
• May assist in the training of plant employees to qualify as a Centrifuge Operator.
• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
• Adhere to plant safety and GMP policies.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); sufficient experience in the Bracket IV processing positions to qualify.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information on a one-on-one basis to other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations uses units of weight measurement, volume and distance. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions percentages, area, and volume.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardization situations.
