Summary of Position:
The Maintenance Technician performs general repairs in support of the physical plant and building operations across the schools campus. The individual performs planned and work-order driven maintenance and mechanical inspections of equipment utilizing results-oriented strategies to ensure continuing operation. The technician should have experience and technical skills with preventive maintenance and system operations to assess and implement service requirements. The individual in this position must work collaboratively with the Facilities Services team and have a customer service orientation to working with students, faculty, and staff. A valid drivers license and the ability to pass an insurance and drivers record check is required.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performs general repairs of physical plant buildings and grounds, such as sheetrock, plastering, painting, carpentry, glass, and screen repairs.
- Assists in the preventative maintenance and repairs of buildings both commercial and residential. Including but not limited to general repairs, belt adjustments, oiling, greasing and cleaning of equipment or replacement of various types of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Advises owner/representative of preventive maintenance inspections performed and corrective actions to be taken. Suggests additional service/renovation requirements.
- Performs preventive maintenance on various mechanical and electrical equipment.Performs re-lamping both indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures.
- Conducts daily/weekly tours of entire campus, including mechanical spaces, tenant/public areas, roofs and building grounds to ensure that there are no outstanding deficiencies.
- Respond to service calls/tenant request for HVAC, plumbing, lighting, escorts, general carpentry & painting duties, key making, picture hanging, safely move furniture and equipment as needed, and provide support or assistance when needed.
- Communicate with the owner, owners representative, or supervisor on the work performed and present status of the work orders.
- Stays abreast of changes (safety and code) in their respective field of expertise through seminars and other educational means.
- Provides information for input to client work order tracking system to initiate work orders for unscheduled jobs, develop materials lists for ordering, an may be required to provide technical support for projects.
- Responds to emergencies and traces, troubleshoots and repairs problems; may wear a pager and/or carry a shop radio for rapid response.
- Conducts general housekeeping to mechanical/electrical rooms including sweeping, mopping and painting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision to be received: This position reports to the Associate Director of Buildings Operations and Utilities, with day-to-day direction provided by the Building Maintenance Manager.
Supervision to be exercised: There are no direct reports for this position. That said, the successful candidate must collaborate with other technicians and trades, as well as external vendors.
Education/Certification/Licensure
Required: Valid drivers license and ability to pass an insurance and drivers record check
Preferred: Certification from a technical school
Experience
Required: A minimum of 3 years of related experience or training
Preferred: 5 years of related experience or training

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be comfortable working in various environmental conditions, such as unconditioned spaces and outdoor environments.
- Must be able to distinguish sounds and communicate effectively to diagnose equipment and coordinate with team members.
- Adherence to safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), is essential.
