Public Safety Supervisor

Salary Range:            $67,800 - $84,767

JOB SUMMARY:

This position monitors the daily transportation security operations in accordance with company procedures in order to provide a safe, secure, and efficient public transportation services. The Public Safety Supervisor will supervise and facilitate the daily duties of Public Safety Officers. The Public Safety Supervisor will respond to safety and security incidents and concerns, ensure all their officers are properly trained, coordinate with the Manager of Public Safety, Dispatch, Route Supervisors, and other internal and external parties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Directly supervises the Public Safety Officer shift.
2. Coordinate and assign Public Safety Officers to security details and monitor their activity to ensure a timely response and to maximize their security presence and job duties.
3. Assists the Manager of Public Safety, Dispatchers, and other interna/external parties to resolve security incidents.
4. Monitors the daily operations of the transit system and make necessary adjustments to maintain a safe and secure public transit system.
5. Complete Officer Security Reports as needed.
6. Liaise with law enforcement to assist in apprehension of suspects.
7. Collaborate with the Manager of Public Safety and Supervisor of Dispatch to identify trends as well as suspects and how to best deploy resources to accomplish desired results.
8. Ensure that all Public Safety Officers are trained and adhere to the standard and conduct retraining as necessary.
9. Ensure that all Public Safety Officers execute their duties with integrity and professionalism.
10. Aid in the review and classification of security incidents.
11. Responds to and investigates security incidents.
12. Submits daily reports of all security activities and submits incident reports.
13. Maintains contact with Dispatch via 2-way radio throughout shift.
14. Coordinates with other third party agencies as needed to provide resources to the riding community.
15. Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Two years experience supervising in a law enforcement officer, Military, Transit Security, or Public Safety/Security is preferred.
2. A two or four year degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or a related field is preferred.
3. Valid Drivers License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of MCTS operations and policies.
2. Knowledge of the criminal justice system, local, state, and federal laws.
3. Knowledge of law enforcement policies and procedures.
4. Ability to coach and support subordinates.
5. Skilled in computer operations and spreadsheet, word processing, communications and related software.
6. Ability to manage conflict and balance competing interests from multiple stakeholders.
7. Ability to develop and execute company strategies to attain outcomes for set goals.
8. Ability to supervise/lead/coach others.
9. Ability to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
10. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
11. Ability to work independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

1. Work is frequently conducted at an outdoor, street, construction site or bus environment and may sometimes be conducted in an office. Incumbent is frequently exposed to extreme temperatures and sometimes exposed to hostile or irate individuals and fumes.
2. Physical requirements are those described light work exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
