Job Summary: The Behavioral Health Emergency Service Clinician for Community Crisis Plans and Staffing provides crisis assessment and intervention services, system navigation, client follow-up, and consultation with community providers. This role coordinates and facilitates crisis staffing meetings, creates crisis plans with individuals and their supports, monitors for compliance to DHS 34 and Behavioral Health Services (BHS) Policies and Procedures, and provides training and support for crisis plans.
Essential Responsibilities:
Conduct psychiatric and psychosocial assessment of individuals with significant mental health and co-occurring needs. Regularly evaluate danger to self and others in children and adults (suicidal and homicidal ideation).
Intervene in and manage the acute crisis phase of mental illness in the community. De-escalate, stabilize, and resolve mental health crisis events (may include remaining with the individual in their community setting until stabilized and linked with other services).
Effectively reduce any danger to self or others by either therapeutic interventions, arranging for immediate services, or connecting to services and/or supports in the community until the danger is eliminated and the person is engaged in therapeutic services.
Implement the plan of care by utilizing psychotherapeutic interventions related to crisis assessment and the development of a crisis plan. Provide assurance through follow up contacts to ensure that interventions developed during the crisis are successful.
Consult and collaborate with BHS and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) service providers, community providers, emergency responders, and other mental health professionals regarding crisis plans and crisis staffing. Provide education regarding the creation and use of crisis plans per DHS 34.
Review and triage referrals for crisis staffing. Coordinate staffing meetings and support providers in developing plans of care to mitigate crises. Facilitate staffing. Offer system navigation of mental health resources. Complete appropriate documentation.
Review and triage referrals for crisis plans. Create crisis plans in collaboration with the client and their supports (in-person whenever possible). Support BHS Crisis Services in developing and updating plans.
Complete audits and monitor information in the electronic health records to support compliance to DHS 34 and BHS Policies and Procedures. Collaborate with BHS Crisis Services to implement appropriate interventions based on audit results.
Participate in community engagement and outreach. Facilitate training to community partners and internal staff. Provide assistance to Crisis Services programs as needed (including Milwaukee Mobile Crisis and Crisis Assessment Response teams).
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid United States Driver’s License, able to be maintained throughout employment.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or other related Human Services field.
At least three (3) years of crisis experience.
Possession of valid Wisconsin professional licensure without restriction at the time of application in one of the following: LCSW, APSW, LPC, LPC-IT, LMFT, or LMFT-IT.
Willing to drive ~50% of the time in this role.
NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency in the state of Wisconsin within six months of start date and maintain such residency during incumbency. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
