Zoo Environmental Services Worker
Full Time
Hourly Pay Range - $17.10 - $19.05
First shift position (7:00am – 3:30pm), with weekend availability required
Job Summary:
Perform cleaning duties and floor finishing in Zoo buildings and grounds. Set up and break down of furniture for internal and external events in the Zoo’s rental areas. Train Zoo staff on cleaning duties and techniques.
Job Responsibilities:
Cleaning - Work as a team member or independently to perform a variety of cleaning duties in public and office areas at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Items include but are not limited to restocking, emptying trash, cleaning bathrooms, window ledges, stairways, railings, furniture, signs, play equipment, etc.
Set up and break down for events - Follow work orders to set up chairs, tables, risers, stages, and podiums for internal and external events held at the Zoo. Ensure the space meets the needs of the customer as outlined in the work order.
Maintain Floors - Sweep, mop, wax, and buff all hard surface floors. Vacuum and extract carpeted floors.
Training - Train seasonal Zoo Workers how to correctly use equipment, how and what to clean as well as what products to use.
Assist with locking and opening doors - Lock buildings on second shift, unlock doors as needed on day shift. May be asked to assist the Night Keeper in emergencies.
Snow Removal - May be asked to assist the Grounds department with snow removal and salting walks.
Ability to operate utility cart, pickup truck, floor cleaning equipment, power washer, window washing equipment, safely and properly.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 50 lbs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education, License/Certification and Experience:
Must be a current resident of Wisconsin.
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Valid WI Driver’s License is required.
Must be able to work independently as well as in a group. Must be able to follow directions and written instructions.

Preferred Experience: One (1) year or more of institutional cleaning experience is preferred.
Note: This Original Examination is open to all qualified applicants authorized to work in the United States. In accordance with Rule III section 11 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of a review of candidate materials, education and related experience.
