Job Summary
The Homeowner and Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for fostering strong relationships between Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) homeowners and their communities. This role ensures successful homeownership through advocacy, engagement, and access to community resources while strengthening partnerships with neighborhood organizations. The position focuses on post-closing homeowner support, sustainability, and strategic community development to improve neighborhood stability and quality of life. The position reports to the Homeowner Support Services Manager in the Family Services Department.
Responsibilities:
Homeownership Maintenance and Sustainability
- Develop and implement programs that engage homeowners post-closing, promoting long-term stability and financial sustainability.
- Organize and facilitate workshops on financial management, preventative home maintenance, and neighborhood safety.
- Collaborate with MHFH's Construction and Volunteer Departments to create educational opportunities for homeowners on home maintenance and improvement.
- Maintain an updated homeowner contact database to track engagement and participation.
- Serve as a primary liaison between homeowners and MHFH, addressing questions, concerns, and needs.
- Distribute a homeowner newsletter with updates, resources, and engagement opportunities.
- Conduct post-closing surveys and assessments to measure homeowner satisfaction and identify areas of improvement.
- Facilitate referrals from existing homeowners to prospective homeownership applicants.
- Assist in securing and delivering housewarming gifts for new homeowners.
Community Engagement and Development
- Introduce new homeowners to their neighborhood networks, fostering relationships with other homeowners and community organizations.
- Work with homeowners to develop leadership skills for addressing neighborhood issues and conflicts.
- Connect homeowners to community safety resources, including law enforcement and local organizations.
- Develop and implement strategic outreach plans to engage homeowners in neighborhood improvement initiatives.
- Partner with local organizations, faith groups, businesses, and government entities to provide resources and support to MHFH homeowners.
- Attend and actively participate in community meetings, providing reports on homeowner and neighborhood concerns.
- Support the development of a MHFH Homeowners Association led by homeowners.
- Assist homeowners in accessing available city and neighborhood resources.
- Collaborate with MHFH's Advocacy team to support policy initiatives that benefit MHFH homeowners and affordable housing efforts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit community engagement, housing, or advocacy.
- Bachelor's degree in community development, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Strong community organizing and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage diverse populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to speak in front of small and large groups.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends. Typical hours Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.

- Position requires traveling approximately 20% of the time within the City of Milwaukee. Reliable private transportation is required. Valid WI Drivers license and good driving record.
