Job Summary

Install, repair, inspect, and maintain electrically powered, life safety, public address, intrusion control, etc. systems, devices, equipment, components, etc. serving the MPS District to ensure integrity and the safety of the building occupants. Function as a Project Management Assistant to estimate, plan and oversee projects completed by contractors as required to assure compliance with contract standards, details, specifications and deadlines. Navigate and monitor Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably AssetWORKS) for trade related work orders, various data, budget targets, etc. Operates and maintains equipment related to the trade. Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Rate: $49.48/hourly (full-time)

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Certifications and Licensing Requirements:

  1. Valid Journeyman Electrician license Wis. Stat. 101.862.
  2. Valid State of Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operators license and availability of properly insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.
  3. Certification in the EPA Asbestos Abatement Training Program (O&M) within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
  4. Silica Hazard Awareness Training within first month of appointment. Note 1 & 2
  5. Certification in the Lead Safe Renovator Training Program within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
  6. Scaffolding User and Erector Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1 & 2
  7. Fall Protection Competent Person Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
  8. Confined Space Entry training within 6 months of appointment. Note 1 & 2
  9. Preferred NICET Certification for Fire Alarm Work.
  10. Completion of DFMS Maintenance and Repair Staff New Hire EHS Orientation Training. Note 2

Note 1 Training and/or testing will be provided by MPS. Employee must obtain the certification within the time allotted.
Note 2 Training modules assigned on the MPS Learning Management System (LMS).

Experience Requirements:

  1. Five (5) years of experience as a journeyman electrician or have completed a Registered Apprenticeship with MPS DFMS. If using the Registered Apprenticeship pathway for experience requirement, a State of Wisconsin Certificate of Apprenticeship completion is required.
  2. One (1) years of experience in operating within a Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably in AssetWORKS)
  3. Experience as indicated previously indicated Essential Functions/Core Competencies.
Responsibilities
  1. Installing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining; lighting, power, fire alarm, access control, public address and emergency power systems; motor, starter, disconnects, panelboards, transformers; food service, HVAC and plumbing equipment; outlets, plugs, switches, wire.
  2. Installing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining; electrical, photo-cell, HVAC, access and intrusion control systems.
  3. Estimating the cost for electrical work associated with installing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining electrical systems and components previously indicated.
  4. Assist in planning and overseeing of projects completed by contractors to assure compliance with contract standards, details, specifications and deadlines.
  5. Design and develop of circuit diagrams with properly selected components, devices, wiring, etc. for previously indicated systems.
  6. Field electrical system lay-out as required for cost effective installation.
  7. Set up and operate machines to bend, cut and thread conduits.
  8. Reading and recording data from instruments and devices set up to measure various circuit parameters.
  9. Support the MPS strategic plan.
  10. Perform other job-related functions as assigned.
