Job Summary

The Internship Coordinator collaborates with business and community members, and Milwaukee Public Schools departments, divisions, district and school staff to promote and coordinate efforts to provide internships and career-based learning experiences for high school students.

Salary Range: $87,000.01 - $125,355.44

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, communications, workforce development, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in program coordination, business development, sales, or community engagement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated proficiency in creating and delivering professional presentations or training.
  • Strong relationship-building and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning job board and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms.
  • Strong leadership, collaborative, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a K-12 education or workforce development setting.
  • Familiarity with internship or youth employment programming.
  • Strong working knowledge of career-based learning activities and career readiness preparation for high school students.
  • Bilingual abilities (especially Spanish) are a plus.
  • Experience in effective grant writing, monitoring and reporting.

Responsibilities

Employer Outreach and Recruitment

  • Proactively identify and call prospective employers to grow the pool of student employers and develop new internship opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local business and community leaders to provide career-based learning experiences and internships for students.
  • Promote the benefits of hosting student interns to businesses, community organizations, and industry associations.
  • Guide employers through the MPS internship process, including how to post opportunities on the MPS student job board.

Internship Program Coordination

  • Collaborate with schools, students, families, and employers to ensure that all internships meet district requirements.
  • Manage the internship agreement process, ensuring all roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and signed by all parties, including students¿ parents/guardians.
  • Ensure each internship concludes with an employer-completed post-work evaluation, a requirement for awarding high school credit.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of the district student job fairs held each spring (one for juniors, and one for seniors).

Collaboration and Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between CTE staff, school-based coordinators, counselors, district leadership, and external partners.
  • Work cross-functionally with other MPS departments and initiatives to align internships with academic and career readiness goals.
  • Represent MPS at community and industry events to promote the student internship program.

Job Board Management

  • Maintain and monitor the MPS student job board, ensuring a consistent flow of new and relevant postings.
  • Provide technical support and training to employers and school staff for using the platform.

Program Monitoring and Improvement

  • Track and report program data (e.g., number of internships posted, filled, and completed).
  • Consistently log all employer calls and maintain an accurate, active employer database.
  • Solicit feedback from employers and schools to refine the program and improve the student experience.
