Job Summary

Assists the Chief Auditor in the fiscal, legal, management practices and performance audits of district programs and operations; as well as assists the Chief Auditor in planning, and organizing, directing and managing of professional staff of auditors as directed by the Chief Auditor.

Qualifications
  • A Masters degree or equivalent in business administration, public policy or a closely related field is required.
  • Professional certifications, such as CPA, CFE, or CIA are highly desired.
  • At least five to ten years of experience in senior level auditor or supervisory level audit positions in public or private sector is required.
  • Government experience is preferred.
  • Experience in both financial/compliance and performance auditing, with an emphasis on performance auditing is required.
Responsibilities
  1. Has responsibility for all audits financial/compliance, performance, operational and compliance as directed or designated by the Chief Auditor.
  2. Plans, organizes, leads and directs audit projects:
  • Assigns audit team and provides on-going feedback, coaching, training and performance evaluations.
  • Defines audit objectives, scope and methods used to conduct analysis and evaluation.
  • Conducts or assigns audit field work including workpaper preparation and report writing.
  1. Assists the Chief Auditor in determining staffing needs and assists in facilitating the recruitment process including the interview and selection process for new employees.
  2. Ensures the district is in compliance with federal, state and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction statutes, policies, rules, procedures and guidelines.
  3. Assists the Chief Auditor in the preparation and presentation of an annual audit plan for Audit Committee and Board approval.
  4. Conducts audit activities according to the annual audit plan and professional auditing standards.
  5. Oversees the Fraud Hotline related investigations and prepares Annual Report to the Board of School Directors.
  6. Assists district administration and law enforcement agencies to resolve confidential investigations.
  7. Assists the Chief Auditor in the offices Peer Review preparation and participation (ALGA).
  8. Ensures the completion of all audit reports forwarded to the Administration and Board for consideration and action.
  9. Establishes a cooperative relationship with other district administrators to gather information and work collaboratively to produce audits which accurately reflect district operations and comply with Board rules, policies and procedures.
  10. Consults with the superintendent and district administration regarding their operations and follow up actions to specific reports concerning Board policy, administrative procedures, and accounting procedures.
  11. Prepares analysis or special reports regarding public policy and management practices, or other topics as assigned.
  12. Recruits, trains and supervises the audit staff.
  13. Completes other duties as assigned.
