Job Summary
The Shop Manager's responsibilities are to oversee the full scope of production and procurement to achieve the production cost, budget targets, and production/assembly programs issued. This position will also oversee quality control and efficiency in the shop by leading the factory team and streamlining processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for material management in order to respect schedules and supplier reliability for all materials.
- Establish and maintain operational budgets for your team personnel and equipment.
- Responsible for the resources assigned to your department, ensuring the correct application of tools and policies on training, career path, evaluations and inputs to compensation systems.
- Read and interpret drawings, gather necessary materials and tools, and ensure smooth assembly operations.
- Verify assembled items meet specifications and conduct regular inspections for quality assurance.
- Work directly with field foremen on delivery schedules, updates, and production needs.
- Identify design issues, communicate with the design team, and suggest improvements.
- Lead weekly safety meetings, enforce company policies, and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop.
- Manage and order lumber, nails, tools, paint, markers, pencils, and other necessary supplies.
- Utilize spreadsheets, iPads, and other tech tools to manage workflow, schedules, and reporting.
- Ensure machines, tools, and equipment are working properly and oversee repairs and regular maintenance.
- Conduct interviews, reviews, disciplinary actions, and provide a positive, accountable work environment for employees.
- Address employee concerns, enforce policies, and resolve conflicts efficiently.
- Compile detailed production programs and targets in line with current project programs, targets and requirements.
- Actively manage the production budget including cost of labor, tools, materials and consumable items.
- Safety related responsibilities
o Attend all OSHA consults and visits
o Enforce safety rules
o Ensure all safety documents are completed and distributed- i.e. weekly toolbox talks, weekly site safety walks, daily machinery inspections, near miss reports, safety violations, etc.
o Set up and maintain safety systems
o Be the competent person for fall protection, and all safety related items
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree preferred
Valid U.S. driver's
Wood Framing or Shop Experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of construction-related equipment and sound demonstrated use.
- Demonstrated ability to make good independent judgment and decisions. (i.e. weather conditions)
- Good teamwork and collaboration effort.
- Strong problem solving, multitasking and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills (methods to include phone, email, & text messaging).
- Fork-lift certified or willingness to get certified.
- OSHA10 certified or willingness to get certified.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds on a frequent basis and up to one-hundred pounds on an occasional basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching is required on a daily basis. A full range of physical motion is required in order to operate manual and electrically-powered tools, and
construction-related equipment. The ability to move throughout the building, including climbing stairs and to work at heights from ladders or scaffolding, in order to perform construction-related work is required.
Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, or which could have work hazards.
Salary : $30 - $40
