Position Summary:
The Intake Specialist is responsible for welcoming clients and conducting the initial intake process for individuals seeking mental health services with Mindful Health. This role is critical in ensuring clients are accurately assessed and expertly directed to appropriate services within our organization. The Intake Specialist serves as one of the first points of contact, providing a compassionate and supportive environment for clients and their families.
Education & Experience:
- Must have a master’s degree in social work, psychology, human development, counseling or behavioral science field from an accredited college or university or be a Registered Nurse.
- Must be actively licensed (LCSW/LPC OR LMSW/LPC-Associate) in the state of Texas to provide clinical care, treatment, and services.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience (preferred) in clinical assessment & diagnosis, with a focus on the treatment and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral health challenges.
- Will be required to participate in active supervision toward advanced clinical permanent licensure with an LCSW-S or LPC-S, if applicable.
- Active CPR Certification
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-person initial intake assessments for new clients.
- Collect and document relevant client information.
- Evaluate urgency and severity of each case to prioritize and determine appropriate clinical pathways.
- Determine service eligibility and match clients with appropriate mental health providers and services.
- Assist clients and their families with PHP/IOP discharge planning, including community resources and referrals.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and staff.
- Ensure client satisfaction and participate in addressing issues if they arise.
- Maintain a positive, professional image in the office and in the community.
- Maintain regular work hours, being on time and managing time well.
- Demonstrate personal characteristics of patience, tact, cheerfulness and enthusiasm toward the administration and clients. Must be able to appropriately respond to all types of behavior.
- Provide complete, timely, and thorough documentation of client history and current assessment of needs. Competent in assessing client high risk symptoms and behaviors and creating a plan for safety.
- Report necessary clinical information to physicians and nurse practitioners
- Respond and assist in the event of a medical emergency
- Any additional duties that facilitate the effective operations of the programs and services provided.
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in the therapeutic milieu.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission and state and federal regulations related to care, treatment, and services.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, and other laws applicable to mental health services.
- Knowledge of continuous process improvement concepts and practices.
- Knowledge of behavioral health levels of care and the criteria for admission for each level of care.
- Emotional intelligence and empathy, as demonstrated by the ability to identify with and understand another person’s point of view and ask the right questions to determine the focus for treatment.
- Communication, as demonstrated by the ability to clearly convey, both verbally and in writing, detailed directions, describe processes in understandable terms, and concise documentation of the therapeutic process.
- Active listening skills, as shown by interpreting verbal and non-verbal cues, determine the treatment focus and understand information from colleagues and other mental health professionals.
- Critical thinking skills, as demonstrated by using creative problem-solving as part of the therapeutic process to find the best available options for clients.
- Organizational skills, as demonstrated by making sure each case is updated in a timely manner with the correct information and cases are prioritized based on client needs.
- Cultural competency, as demonstrated by being sensitive to diverse ideas, views, and beliefs, seeking to learn more about others while understanding one’s own background and beliefs.
- Boundary setting, as demonstrated by setting boundaries in the clinician-client relationship but also in establishing a good work-life balance.
- Professionalism, as demonstrated by constantly learning and developing better ways to serve clients and the community. Using knowledge gained to improve services with clients, families, and groups.
- Time management, as demonstrated by giving clients the attention they need both in interpersonal interaction but also in completing documentation in a timely manner.

Mindful Health offers:
- A healthy & positive atmosphere where everyone is valued.
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST. As the clinic grows, evening availability may be necessary.
- The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience ($65K - $75K for LMSW/LPC-associates & $75K - $85K for LCSWLPC).

- 120 hours (15 days) of paid time off
- 40 hours (5 days of sick leave
- 24 hours (3 days) of paid bereavement leave per occurrence.
