Job Title: Instructional Coach Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Campus Principal

Dept./School:

Primary Purpose: Develop innovative partnerships with teachers through small group and one-on-one staff development that targeting exemplary best practices that result in student success.

Qualifications:

Education / Certification: Bachelor’s degree and valid SBEC Teacher Certification in area of expertise (Reading /Language Arts or Math)

Special Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrate expertise in teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) ; understanding of beginning teacher development; knowledge of formative assessments; effective interpersonal skills and willingness to work collaboratively with teachers; effective coaching, and conferencing skills; demonstrate commitment to professional growth and learning; demonstrate effectiveness as a professional role model; demonstrate use of best teaching practices; understanding of and ability to use teacher development research; use of data to show successful implementation of research-proven best practices in your classroom


Experience:

At least three years experience as a classroom teacher with additional experience in instructional leadership roles


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Become experts in and continue to learn the best practices of instruction through book study, workshops, conferences, PLC time, and from partnerships with teachers.
  • Study, attend professional development and develop the partnership attitude, skills, data analysis, and problem-solving strategies needed to be an effective Instructional Coach.
  • Plan and deliver effective staff development based on campus/teacher needs that are aligned to the Mineral Wells ISD (Mineral Wells Works Model), including Summer Institute.
  • Collaborate with teachers one-on-one and in small groups to help teachers solve their classroom challenges by embedding research-proven strategies including integrating technology in classrooms.
  • Make risk-taking with research- proven practice “safer” for the teachers through support.
  • Collaborate with campus administration to develop common goals and strategies that are aligned to campus needs and district goals.
  • Support the campus in district-supported practices and strategies. Authentic respect of teachers and the profession.
  • Willing to learn at a fast and furious pace.
  • Ability to get around barriers to change by working with the teacher to discover answers to the challenges present in the classroom.
  • Translate research into classroom practice by repeatedly doing the hard or tedious work for or with the teacher so they can first see the positive results of the best practice without being discouraged in the process required to make it a habit.
  • Have an infectious and positive persistence for helping others grow professionally.
  • Understands helping other teachers be successful is the definition of a successful Instructional Coach.

Other:

Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations

Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

Maintain emotional control under stress. District wide and state travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
